Where was our commitment in 2014?
You are proving my point.
We failed to live up to our commitment and that led to an even bigger war.
Well, Obama sent them blankets and MRE's!

Numbers aren’t exactly the benefit you think they are for china.

In steel, you are correct. Also, some pharma is there that used to be in Puerto Rico. Dependency on China includes throw away parts. No one is dependent on China where precision is desired.
China is dependent on the US for plastics and petrochemicals. Everyone is dependent on Japan for high purity chemicals required for computer chips and circuits.
China is dependent on Australia and the USA for LNG.

That’s good and all. Would collapse with the quickness under war economy. Famine out the arse that would make mao blush.
China is allowed to exist because international capitalism allows china to exist. War with the west would be world ending for china.

In an obscure footnote of a couple of decades ago, hurricane damage in Florida was significantly delayed due to shipping time for sheetrock and sheetrock screws from China.
There is some movement shifting away from China to other cheaper labor markets where IP theft and other impediments aren't so common.

Chinese manufacturing is often shoddy with lots of corners cut.
A old friend and client was in Hong Kong where American bowling companies were suing Chinese manufacturers. They didn't follow the specs and their automatic bowling machine broke down a lot. He visited a 100+ lane Chinese bowling alley. There was one repair guy for every 2 or three lanes to keep them running. That doesn't work here.
Ps. Main topic of discussion on high powered legal team: Why doesn't Hong Kong have fortune cookies.

Very abbreviated story:
Our staff was discussing this very topic (shoddy Chinese Mfg) with other company representatives who began to tell us about some refrigerator compressors (Chinese made..) in Europe that were emitting toxic gasses into homes.. European companies contacted Chinese Mfgs about issue and the Chinese Reps said we will come up with a solution..
10 days later the Chinese solution was for the residents to open their windows..

Things from today.
Interesting thread by ChrisO_wiki looking at cumlative sources pointing at worsening supply across the different fronts for Russia.
https://threadreaderapp.com/thread/1679893186620141582.html
Reports that the U.S. will repurchase Hawk missiles from Taiwan to supply to Ukraine.
https://www.taiwannews.com.tw/en/news/4944652
A look at some of the recent training Ukraine soldiers did that is reportedly from their point of view. The gist is that much of what they were trying to teach them was dated compared to what experienced troops from Ukraine already had learnt or adapted though this can be attributed to experienced troops being put into the wrong programs so there was a communication breakdown at some level in this.

This is the original thread that Sam Bendett's post was based on, it requires translation but is a good read if you have the time and inclination.

Edit: Incorporated GOP_Tiger's points regarding the troop training.

I read it. It certainly wasn't really the trainers' fault, but rather the result of poor communication at higher levels. The trainers had a training course for new recruits, and they instead got experienced fighters who were bored with much of what they were "taught" and didn't need to be taught basic discipline.
It's ridiculous to think that some experienced Ukrainian soldiers could just show up in Germany, say "We really need more training on X," and then get training on X.

Ben Wallace is claiming to have been misrepresented by the media in his comments regarding Ukraine which is quite plausible so I am amending my former post regarding them. There are reports that he is now considering leaving his position in Autumn so he may have been given his marching orders and is looking for a quiet exit.

Good point I should have put that in as well, will amend.
Edit: I was also linking as it was interesting to see what was being taught versus what they already were using/capable of given experience

Some good evidence how footage can be misused for propaganda purposes, in this case by Russia.

Russian footage. They claimed a Leopard was destroyed 'thanks to engineers of the 58th army'.
No it wasn't.

This example shows how Russian propaganda channels operate.
The first video is widely distributed in Russian channels, claiming that a Leopard hit a mine and got destroyed. The video gets cut right after the explosion (like in many Lancet videos) without revealing what really happened.
The second video shows the same situation but with a different angle and a completely different story, proving that the tank was not only a T-64 but also deliberately mine-clearing the area with mine-rollers. Furthermore, it is pretty much intact after triggering the mine.

I mean, they still have like half a billion males. And any war with China won’t be a meat grinder like Ukraine is. It’ll primarily be an air and naval conflict.
205.3 million between 20-39. For comparison we have around 45.75 million in the same age range, most of which are unfit to serve. China doesn’t have the same problem.
At times I think people use the coming population decline in China to overcompensate. The only other country who could compete with these numbers at present is India. China is a ways ahead of India militarily as they continue to, as I believe you mentioned prior, build the most ships in the world while adding naval bases at a good clip.
Sure 50 years from now China May have a real problem with fighting aged males, they don’t today or immediate future. The numbers game is China’s for now and in our immediate future.
