Eh. China is a paper tiger in for a world of hurt in the next 20 years.
That pop pyramid don’t lie, hoss.

I disagree.
Countries around the world are seeing the US live up to our commitment to Ukraine. Down the road when we promise Japan, Taiwan, S Korea, Thailand or another nation something they will know we keep our commitments.
The average citizen won’t notice, but when we live up to our commitments we stabilize the world. We keep open our markets and our friends know we stand with them.

China relies on Russian equipment for its military, like having to buy Russian engines for its airforce. China doesn't develop new military tech, it steals or purchases it. The Chinese military has no real combat experience or effective military doctrine. The population is aging out of combat service range and the economy is a precarious house of cards that is about to tip. They are not a threat.
China is a threat. Their engine technology is advancing. They have the largest shipbuilding industry in the world by far. They’re constantly building new bases overseas. Everyday they gain more influence around the world. If you’re of the opinion that China isn’t a threat then Russia certainly is no threat and really we’re just wasting our time beating up on another little guy.

Never underestimate an adversary.
China is much more capable than you suggest and will be a huge threat in the Pacific, if not globally, for a generation.

you don't think China is closely watching the war un Ukraine? Russia and China figured that the West and NATO were divided and too focused on internal issues. They are now looking at a united West and NATO that is also starting to ramp up military production and spending. They also see the economic restrictions placed on Russia.
China has to at least take pause to what they received as the west's weakness. And at best has to rethink their own military ambitions knowing how much better western military tech has an efect on the battle field.
EDIT:
And the biggest take away from the Russo-Ukraine war is that the world body will not stand for early 1900's style aggression for conquest of territory. the world wants stability. stopping Russia and forcing them back to pre-2012 borders will deter future action for other countries from attempting the same.

Nah, they are going downhill from here on out. They don’t have the youth. They don’t have the males.
Their entire cultural way of life depends on families having more than one son.

what happens if we do face an opponent who can keep the air space contested?… something the US hasn’t faced in 70 years.
I wonder who we could reasonably expect the have a chance at contesting airspace against us. Our airborne capabilities that we know of are miles ahead of the competition and the stuff we don’t know about probably blows the other stuff out of the sky.
China and Russia? Lol. They cannot compete with our air capabilities. Not as of now or the near future.

I love the blame the West for Russias invasion circle logic. We are almost back to square 1
1) NATO expansion
2) ethnic Russian protection
2) Biolabs
3) Ukriane isn't a real country and they are actually Russians
Back to square 1

Oh, come on, man. Two decades? Please. Absolutely no one in 2003 would have agreed that China was a greater threat than Russia. Please show me something that indicates that.
I'm not sure, but I think that the US intelligence threat assessment first considered China to be a greater threat than Russia something like 7-8 years ago.
EDIT: Twenty years ago, China's military was total crap.

Not sure why I’m being downvoted. Guess facts are scary?

China has a lot of internal problems like defaulting on over a trillion in bond debt (state owned companies)
It has power supply to manufacturing issues which has caused as much damage as their extreme covid lockdowns.
It has a definite demographics issue with a society in serious decline.
European nations have pivoted away from China economically due its support of Russia.

Absolutely. The killer mosquitoes engineered in those labs are eating Russian troops alive, and the pigeons hitting Russians with toxic poop are simply devastating.
We need to invest more in Ukrainian biolabs. I can't wait until the Ukrainians figure out how to get giant squid to attack the Russian dolphins defending Sevastopol.

Russian occupiers from the 72nd Brigade are burying whatever is left of their comrades who were stuck in a Grad vehicle waiting for an order that never came, and condemn their leadership. The vehicle was destroyed with a precision Ukrainian strike. 72nd Brigade replaced Wagner units in Bakhmut.

But will all these issues make China more reckless in the near-term?
