Unconfirmed tweet about cluster munitions to be announced tomorrow by the U.S to send to Ukraine.
If this turns out to be true it is excellent. Not only is it a great tool for the Ukrainians which they need for this type of warfare but it will also either get rid of ours for the cost of shipment (saves us money) or their effectiveness makes us rethink leaving them out of our doctrine which is simple since we have not signed the Convention on Cluster Munitions.

Many thanks to those who continue to educate others on the status of the war. Very helpful to watch the real time information share.

Germany just announced a plan to spend $100 billion to modernize its military. That's actually going to put it at the NATO target of 2% of GDP (for the first time in forever).
Oh, and where is that money going? Reuters:
German firm sees U.S. getting lion's share of 100 billion euro military fund
So, Germany will likely spend an additional $50 billion on American weapons. That's a LOT of jobs for American workers.

MUNICH, July 4 (Reuters) - Up to half of the 100 billion euro ($109 billion) special fund set up to modernize the German military will likely go to U.S. defence companies, a leading tank gear box maker said, accusing Berlin of lacking a strategy for its defence industry.
"I don't believe that much of the money will be left over for the German industry," Susanne Wiegand, chief executive of Renk Group, told reporters in Munich, adding the government in Berlin did not realise the strategic importance of the defence industry.
So, Germany will likely spend an additional $50 billion on American weapons. That's a LOT of jobs for American workers.

The Kremlin continues to show concern over the risk of a potential armed rebellion in Russia after Wagner Group’s rebellion on June 24.

This was on Churchill’s mind even during the war. One of the main reasons he wanted to invade Europe via the Balkans instead of Normandy was so the Western Allies could “shake hands with the Soviets as far East as possible.”

The thread is about to hit 3,000 pages and before anyone asks it is not the longest thread ever. Q was at least twice as long, AtPB was purportedly longer but I have never seen a page count posted. While those threads are both gone this is still not the longest thread still available. The active Bourbon thread on FB is over 3700 pages when you consider it has been restarted twice "immediately" and all the posts are still available.
So for all the curious and the trolls, this is not currently the longest thread in TD history.

Would the real Prigo please stand up.
The FSB leaked some disguised selfies found on a phone in their raid of his estate back in June.
Maybe its is the ball cap and glasses but top right looks like Michael Moore lost a lot of weight.

About the pace of the offense, Ryan and Theiner are in agreement. From both threads -
quote:
... in the west, the only model we have for taking down an enemy operational system is the US in the 1991 Gulf War. A 42-day campaign using thousands of aircraft was needed.
quote:However in Ukraine, due to the lack of this airpower,
During the 1991 Gulf War 1,700+ coalition combat aircraft needed 37 (!) days and 100,000+ sorties to attrition the Iraqi forces enough to trigger the ground campaign. And 288 Tomahawk cruise missiles were fired at Iraqi targets.
quote:
... if you're Russia, all you have to do it to park your heavy equipment outside of GMLRS range and Ukraine can't hit it. It makes no sense to use a expensive Storm Shadow missile to hit i.e. a Russian T-90M tank...
Still Ukraine must attrition Russia's heavy equipment before it can begin Phase 2 of the offensive... and the only way to do it is to bait Russian forces into GMLRS and Excalibur range. And Ukraine is doing this right now by attacking the Russian lines with four of the ten brigades that have been readied for this Phase.

Agreed both of them were on point in these assessments in my view.
Also having reviewed Theiner's posts and replies for the last month my comments on him being doom and gloom about the lack of progress were incorrect and I have updated my original reply to reflect this.
quote:
I recall him getting very doom and gloom after a week or so of the offensive that it wasn't going as well as he predicted which is when he started to really lash out at criticism. Will go back and see if I can dig up the exchanges I read when I have some time tomorrow. Edit2 - Having gone back over the last month or so of his thread, the comments regarding him being doom and gloom were in error so please disregard.
