Well, it's a fair trade since Russia now has a lot of American equipment in its hands thanks to Egpyt.

Likely Fort Bliss, Texas, where tank training happens.

Poland asked Germany for permission to re-export MiG-29 combat aircraft to Ukraine

It is about the MiG-29 fighters, which were in service in the GDR, reports the dpa agency. In 2002, #Germany sold 23 such aircraft to #Poland, and therefore #Berlin must agree to their transfer.

Plans to supply #Kyiv with 14 Soviet-designed aircraft to help the country repel #Russian aggression were announced by #Warsaw in March. Eight of them have already been transferred. #Slovakia delivered four more MiG-29s to #Ukraine.

Germany will allow Poland to transfer MiG-29 to Kyiv

This is reported by Süddeutsche Zeitung with reference to the head of the German Defense Ministry, Boris Pistorius. "The decision will be made as early as today," the newspaper quoted Pistorius as saying.

The EU imposed sanctions against the "Wagner" PMC and propaganda news agency "RIA FAN"

The document was published on the official portal of the EU. It says that the EU has put on its sanctions list two organizations responsible for actions undermining or threatening the territorial integrity, sovereignty and independence of Ukraine.

The justification for the sanctions states that the "Wagner" PMC led the attacks on the Ukrainian cities of Soledar and Bakhmut in January 2023, and "RIA FAN" Kremlin news agency, which is part of a media group whose board of trustees is headed by Prigozhin (founder of the "Wagner" PMC), was involved in pro-government propaganda and disinformation.

Thanks, Stormy. That's a lot of good stuff.

By the way, y'all, on the leak situation, I just read that over 1.25 million Americans have "Top Secret" security clearance. Seems excessive, no?

A now retired biz friend had Top Secret clearance due being an Electronics Technician on a carrier in the 1960's. Because of this, he had a job working for a company that didn't exist but owned by a certain agency to interview certain individuals who were flown nonstop from overseas directly to the building he lived and worked in. All he did was write the report after each interview.

He's an interesting fellow who has worked on a lot of engineering for Space One under Rutan. He dropped out of Auburn after his junior year in chemical engineering. He has worked as an engineering consultant for lots of you never heard of them companies with new novel chemical processes, from fish oil extraction to pharma. He now lives in the desert in Val Verde County, Texas.

BTW, I call him occasionally to visit. Yesterday's phone call, he and his wife are doing fine other than he broke a bone in his leg a month ago. He complained that there are no good candidates he sees for president and we haven't had a decent one for decades. He is a No Party sort of guy who have a Vote for Phil Latio bumper sticker. He wants us to kick Russia's arse out of Ukraine, because he is tired of this crap dragging on, as quite a libertarian minded fellow.

HE's friends with the local sheriff so doesn't need the state or Feds to do anything for him

A friend of mine had to get top secret clearance once while working on the chemical weapons incinerator at Anniston Army Depot. He was running the project to upgrade some part of the process and was told that he and one other guy from his department would need to get cleared since they would be drawing up the prints and planning their part of the process. They went through the whole process and were told a couple days after they had been cleared that a mistake had been made, they didn't actually need top secret clearance and were immediately downgraded to just "secret".

I remember him being so pissed because he had been sweating bullets over an open container ticket he had gotten when he was like 16 or 17 years old. He just knew he was gonna lose that job over a ticket from his teen years. But he didnt.

Another option would be Ft Irwin in Cali. They have the best OPFOR training in the US. They normally use VISMODs for training but I suppose they could use actual Russian hardware for a number of things. In my day the BMPs were M555 Sheridans.

Whatever squadron of the 11th Armored Cavelry is currently doing NTC rotations is the best Russian tank unit in the world. Anyone that has ever tangled with them knows what it is like to get your shite pushed in by "Russians".

Leader of Online Group Where Secret Documents Leaked Is Air National Guardsman

quote:

The leader of a small online gaming chat group where a trove of classified U.S. intelligence documents leaked over the last few months is a 21-year-old member of the intelligence wing of the Massachusetts Air National Guard, according to interviews and documents reviewed by The New York Times.

The national guardsman, whose name is Jack Teixeira, oversaw a private online group named Thug Shaker Central, where about 20 to 30 people, mostly young men and teenagers, came together over a shared love of guns, racist online memes and video games

quote:

Two U.S. officials confirmed that investigators want to talk to Airman Teixeira about the leak of the government documents to the private online group. One official said Airman Teixeira might have information relevant to the investigation.

Federal investigators have been searching for days for the person who leaked the top secret documents online but have not identified Airman Teixeira or anyone else as a suspect. The F.B.I. declined to comment.

The New York Times spoke with four members of the Thug Shaker Central chat group, one of whom said he has known the person who leaked for at least three years, had met him in person, and referred to him as the O.G. The friends described him as older than most of the group members, who were in their teens, and the undisputed leader. One of the friends said the O.G. had access to intelligence documents through his job.

quote:

The Times also has established, through social media posts and military records, that Airman Teixeira is enlisted in the 102nd Intelligence Wing of the Massachusetts Air National Guard. Posts on the unit’s official Facebook page congratulated Airman Teixeira and colleagues for being promoted to Airman First Class in July 2022.

I can only assume a higher up passed it to him. I wouldn't think he would have access to that info?

Oh, I missed this part:

quote:

When Times reporters approached the house again, the truck was parked in the driveway. Airman Teixeira’s mother and a man were standing outside in the driveway.

When asked if Airman Teixeira was there and willing to speak, the man said: “He needs to get an attorney if things are flowing the way they are going right now. The Feds will be around soon, I’m sure.”

Maybe, but it isn't like a Top Secret clearance gives you carte blanche to access all Top Secret information. It is still siloed by your need to access the information. I had a Top Secret SIOP/ESI clearance when I was in the Navy but even with that, it's not like I could just pop open the safe and start reading documents unless I had a valid reason for doing so. Also I couldn't pop in the radio room and see how those guys were doing.

I still have no idea what went on because none of it makes any sense.
I guess I can see a guy seizing an opportunity to grab a handful of stuff once (I've never been anywhere remotely close to having any clearance, so I don't know any possible details), but now I see a claim that exfiltration was going on for months, which I can't figure at all.

An interesting puzzle for a complete outsider, trying to figure out what's true, what might be true, what's nonsense.

The only thing I think we can take to the bank is that if somebody did make an unauthorized leak of material with the apparent importance of this stuff, they're going to get caught and they're going to be very sorry they got caught.

How would a 21 year who is not even active duty have access to that info?
