Pretty sure the guy who made those nuclear comments is a Russian TV blowhard who said stuff like that in the past.

Do you watch a lot of Russian news?
And, if you do, then do you think they would be truthful about Putin's declining health if it were true?

The quote IS accurate, the TU-160 is the fastest existing strategic bomber, and the 2nd fastest ever built (behind the xb-70).
However, only 16 of them are operational.

[CNN]Satellite images show more than three-mile-long Russian military column on roadway to Kyiv
quote:
As Ukrainians continue to repel Russian advances around Kyiv, new satellite images show a more than 3-mile-long Russian military convoy is on a roadway that heads toward the capital city.
According to Maxar, the convoy was seen on satellite images on Sunday around 10:56 a.m. local time on the P-02-02 road near Ivankiv, which is about 40 miles (60 kilometers) northwest of the Ukrainian capital. The P-02-02 road goes toward Kyiv.
Maxar identified fuel and logistical trucks, in addition to tanks, infantry vehicles and self-propelled artillery moving in the convoy.

I was using retire as a euphemism.

Nobody, including China, wants Russia to use nukes.
That’s why I question if the people under Putin would just go along with any semblance of willingness to deploy a nuke in any capacity. There is plenty of speculation that the Kremlin didn’t have total buy-in to this operation from the beginning. Just seems like a scenario that creates another Operation Valkyrie.

Putin is probably in hiding to prevent assassination.

So this is the closest we have come to a nuclear war since....?

no chance Putin “retires”
Russian leaders don’t “retire.” They have “unfortunate accidents” with cups of Polonium tea.

Worst case scenario IMO is I could be a last ditch effort to revive communism. Putin starves his people until they rely on govt soup lines even more... Then manages the narrative enough to make another red scare. Best case scenario his own people hang him publicly.

Take out the front and back of the convoy and those fackers are sitting ducks.

Could you imagine destruction of a three mile long convoy?

No, but the video of him undressing the spy chief looked totally normal and without tremors or appearance to hide one. Biden couldn’t do that. Same rules apply to our media largely, they don’t want to show Biden as a bumbling idiot either so we don’t see him much, yet when we do it’s still clear he’s a bumbling idiot.

In October 2020 Nexta channel and its logo were declared extremist materials in Belarus.[22][23] By that time Nexta and Nexta Live had near 2 mln subscribers.[24] Putilo promised to re-brand the channel.[25] In a month, the authorities opened a criminal case against Putilo and Protasevich, accusing him for ‘organizing the mass riot’.[26]
As of March 2021, the Belarusian Investigative Committee was seeking to recognize Nexta's editorial board as a ‘foreign extremist agent’.[27]
In May 2021 Denis Urad, a former officer of the Belarusian Army, was sentenced to 18 years for treason. He was accused for disclosing to Nexta copies of the MVD request from the Ministry of Defence to send 4000 soldiers during the protests of 2020.[28]
In October 2021 the government classified Nexta, Nexta Live and Luxta as 'extremist organisations' and declared that all followers of such Telegram channels will face prosecution under Criminal Code.[29][30]

Eta:There's also the issue of language. Only 20% of Ukraine speaks Russian
Russian and Ukrainian are closely related languages, and while some say they aren't mutually intelligible, others argue that they mostly are. 80 percent commonality in words and language structure. The biggest differences are pronunciation and spelling. The differences between them are closer to American vs. Scottish English than say, English and German, which are considered to be in the same language family, but are not mutually intelligible. And something like 60 percent of people in the Ukraine, not counting native Russian speakers, had education in both during their schooling. It isn't going to be the barrier that you think it is.
