Exactly. The only thing holding up America at this point is the petrodollar. If we lose that, we basically end up like 90's Russia.
wait. i think i’m missing some context, plus I’m admittedly woefully ignorant on the subject. You’re saying the removal of Russia from SWIFT would be the equivalent to the petrodollar no longer propping up USD?

Sounds like Germany needs to find the keys to those decommissioned nuclear power plants

Excuse me what?
I think Germany can veto movement of weapons it helped secure. There was a post earlier about this.
They're not vetoing these countries moving arms into Ukraine

Not to mention Russia has waged a destabilization and misinformation campaign in pro-Russian regions that made life WORSE for its "people."

But, at some point, they may have to pick a side. Maybe Germany will finally pick a side where they actually come out looking decent in the end for once.

If it even starts to look like Putin is ready to go nuclear, China will actually be the first country to bodybag him in the Ural Mountains.
They haven't waited this long to emerge on the world stage to watch a senile nutjob end civilization.
Yeah people overrate China and Russia's relationship.
China is not going to let Russia destroy itself

No, if we cut them off from SWIFT, it could cause an international movement to move away from the dollar as an international currency. If that happens, the dollar essentially tanks and we're all eating rice and beans.

There shouldn’t be any American soldiers killed in Ukraine. Providing weapons, training, etc would be the route to go and not remain neutral

It hasn't historically been great, but we're pushing them to a stronger alliance everyday.

Oh they definitely do not. Plenty of pathetic stories about how under equipped their soldiers are. They do the bare minimum when it comes to their military. The British and French could do more too but at least they seem to somewhat try. Some European leader they are
Also from what I’ve seen from some Germans, joining the military isn’t seen as a very good thing. There’s still a lot of carried over negative attitudes from the end of WWII.

[CNN] Heaviest fighting in Ukraine is "in and around Kharkiv," senior US defense official says
quote:
The heaviest fighting in Ukraine is “in and around Kharkiv,” a senior US defense official said Saturday.
The official said the US saw “stiff resistance on the northern advance towards Kyiv,” as well. “But the heaviest fighting we still assess is in and around Kharkiv,” the official added.
Russian forces are facing the resistance to their invasion in the northern part of Ukraine along two axes, the official said: “down towards Kyiv and generally from Belgorod towards Khakriv.”
Russian forces are facing “less resistance in the south,” the official added.

Russia says it will launch offensive on all fronts in Ukraine.
Igor Konashenkov, a spokesman for Russia’s defense ministry, said that the order to start the offensive followed Ukraine’s alleged refusal to engage in peace talks, which the Ukrainian authorities have denied.

If the people of Ukraine truly thought that their government was illegitimate, do you think that you would see the domestic response on the ground of this conflict that we are seeing? It's clear that Russia thought that the Ukrainian people would not resist an overthrow of a government that Russia perceived his illegitimate, but the actual actions show that they may have quite a bit more support for this government which makes it legitimate
To be fair, half this country thinks our own govt is illegitimate, if Mexico invaded the people who think our own govt is illegitimate would be on the front lines fighting the Mexicans while the Biden supporters would be whining about the Mexicans being poor and we should just welcome them to a better life.

I don't think Russia, China, and Iran would be enough.
Their issue also would be a currency to replace the USD, b/c none of the 3 currently have that. China has intentionally deflated its currency to the point where it's unstable, and Russia has accomplished this negligently. Nobody is going to trade in whatever the frick Iran uses, for obvious reasons.
The Euro failed to overtake the USD, which is a lesson in any future competitor.

The rest of the world would not move from the USD and insert the currency favored by the country, and allies of, that started all of this.
