No way releasing a bunch of battle-hardened criminals with ptsd onto our streets would backfire.
The Greatest Generation would disagree. They may not have sent straight up convicts to battle, but do you think there weren’t a few criminals in the ranks in WW2?

Over 2million Court Martials of US Service personnel 41-45. Most of those were Summary Courts but damn.
In 06, 07, 08 when Afghanistan and Iraq were rockin it wasnt uncommon to ask the local judge/law enforcement if you could have your guys back for a deployment. That happened many times at Hood.

Oh no, Ukraine bros! Is this true?
No it’s not true. It’s a complete misrepresentation of what was said. Ukrainian government officials said that Russia wanted to push to regain some of the territory that it has lost over the past 2 months and be able to shell Kharkiv. Ukrainian government officials also said Ukrainians should prepare for a long war.

I'm in favor of this if it involves our prison system only. Those who survive get their sentences commuted.
We tried that in the later portions of Vietnam. Jail or a one way trip to the Nam. It didn't work out so well. They tended to be not so good of a soldier.

Damn you believe the Ukrainians domed a British SAS sniper, and our only news of it is this text message written by someone who apparently doesn't use contractions at all, except for 'don't or 'didn't,' with the hint of 'dint' possibly being a pronunciation spelling of didn't? The grammar and syntax seems so formal that it doesn't seem like how an American, as the original tweet directly claims, would type out a message, especially if the environment is as stressful as they claim.
It might be true, it might not, it might be based on half-truths, etc., but the apparently inclusion of the famous 'SAS sniper' makes me even more skeptical, given that a series of false stories circulated around Syria/Iraq about an SAS sniper from 2015 to 2017. LINK
Also the fact that you believe it with all your little gay heart makes me the most skeptical, you Banana Republic-wearing bitch. Buy American pussy. Wear some Hickey Freeman like a man.

So what you are saying is there is a war going on in Ukraine....seriously? War is always a shitshow. Show me an army that hasn't had friendly fire deaths, poor communication, left some behind either accidentally or do to circumstance...

Key Takeaways
Concentrated Russian artillery power paired with likely understrength infantry units remains insufficient to enable Russian advances within Severodonetsk.
Russian forces continued to prepare to advance on Slovyansk from southeast of Izyum and west of Lyman.
Russian forces are focusing on strengthening defensive positions along the Southern Axis due to recent successful Ukrainian counterattacks along the Kherson-Mykolaiv Oblast border.
Successful Ukrainian counterattacks in the Zaporizhia area are forcing Russian forces to rush reinforcements to this weakened sector of the front line.
Russian forces are likely conducting false-flag artillery attacks against Russian-held territory to dissuade Ukrainian sentiment and encourage the mobilization of proxy forces.

It was fairly common that if someone say 18 went before a judge, he had a choice, jail or military. Happened to a black friend who had a college basketball scholarship and caught by sheriff with a white gal in the car with him doing the dirty deed. Voila a joint was found in the car. After basic training he was playing basketball and the base coach "drafted" him. Shortly after that the base coach was transferred to Germany and had his favorite player be transferred with him. So the guy spent the rest of his service in Germany instead of Vietnam. Meanwhile a younger brother made All American at Tulane in football and also started on their basketball team.
A couple of guys from a small town in SW LA were caught doing an underage gal, so the judge gave them a choice, trial or military. They both joined the AF as both had just graduated from h.s. One of them was the son of the town MD.,

Kazakh oil has two routes to market, either to China or via a pipeline to a Russian terminal on the Black Sea. How is a shipment going to be stopped? I guess that it can use much more expense rail to go through Russia to somewhere else.

Tactical success or not, have to believe this was included in Putin’s invasion calculus. Energy is Russias survival and they know Europe is dependent on them, now add in half of the EUs nuclear production in jeopardy at some level.
Man they better hope for mild summer and winter.
If we had our shite together we could a) help our own economy b) help the Europeans replace Russians LNG with American LNG.

The outages at EDF, Europe’s biggest electricity exporter, have sent France’s nuclear power output tumbling to its lowest level in nearly 30 years, pushing French electric bills to record highs just as the war in Ukraine is stoking broader inflation. Instead of pumping vast amounts of electricity to Britain, Italy and other European countries pivoting from Russian oil, France faces the unsettling prospect of initiating rolling blackouts this winter and having to import power.
EDF, already 43 billion euros (about $45 billion) in debt, is also exposed to a recent deal involving the Russian state-backed nuclear power operator, Rosatom, that may heap fresh financial pain on the French company. The troubles have ballooned so quickly that President Emmanuel Macron’s government has hinted that EDF may need to be nationalized.
quote:
EDF’s recent troubles began mounting just before Russia invaded Ukraine. The company warned last winter that it could no longer produce a steady nuclear power supply, as it struggled to catch up with a two-year backlog in required maintenance for dozens of aging reactors that was put off during coronavirus lockdowns.

quote:
Today, French nuclear production is at its lowest level since 1993, generating less than half the 61.4 gigawatts that the fleet is capable of producing. (EDF also generates electricity with renewable technologies, gas and coal.) Even if some reactors resume in the summer, French nuclear output will be 25 percent lower than usual this winter — with alarming consequences.
“If you have power plants that are operating well below capacity, we will either have to go to blackouts or revert to carbon-emitting energy, which is coal or natural gas,” said Thierry Bros, an energy expert and professor at the Paris Institute of Political Studies.
