I'm seeing a lot of posts indicating that the Ukrainians are close to fully retaking Severodonetsk.
If Russians can't push them back out quickly, that's a MAJOR defeat. They have put everything they have into trying to capture Severodnetsk, if they don't succeed, what does that say?
More news will be forthcoming, interested to see where this is in a couple of days.

#Ukraine: Clearer footage just released by the Ukrainian 128th Mountain Assault Brigade shows what was shot down was a Russian Ka-52 attack helicopter- they claim that a MANPADS was used.
Given the low altitude & very rapid explosion, we can state that both the crew were killed.

The implications are insane, so let’s say an army was told to attempt a river crossing and it failed, then a second and third command given to attempt the crossing again and again with no regard for men and materials losses but the 2nd and 3rd commands were not actually given by that 1st army command but by the other opposing side. Fog of war on steroids.
Reminds one of 1/9/12.
Shut your whore mouth. That date is to never be mentioned again!

it appears increasingly clear from Russian media that the Russian population are aware the conflict is not going well for them. That seems to me that it could cut two ways, they could scream for peace, or that could push them towards total war and levee en masse. Some of the Russian state media are clearly pushing for an expansion of the conflict.
This conflict is a really good illustration of how Golda Meir (allegedly) distilled the Israeli/Arab conflict:
“If the Arabs lay down their weapons there will be peace. If Israel lays down its weapons there will be a massacre.”
If Russia lays down its weapons this war ends and no Russian civilians die and. I Russian land destroyed. If Ukraine lays down its weapons there will be no Ukraine and countless Ukrainians will die and more Europeans will be on deck.
That’s the element that doesn’t seem to register with the pro-Russia posters or at least the ones that seem to view both sides (and nato) as equally culpable here. Russia needs thousands and maybe millions of civilians to die to achieve its goals - whatever those may be today. Ukraine needs zero Russian civilians to die to achieve its goal.

Russians have been pushed out of many areas, however these areas remain as no mans land or "grey zones", due to them being heavily shelled by either side. The pocket that Russian forces remain in, is reportedly heavily defended and is "Hard to storm".

It is amazing. With the UK out of the EU this is the the moment for the Eurocentric French and Germans to assert themselves and Europe as a unified force not to be fricked with.
Instead it’s the US and UK once again largely holding the line for the western world order. I guess no has yet translated “The White Man’s Burden” into French or German.

The French will always do what’s good for the French, first and foremost. They’re not walking away from their investments in Russia.
