I know many of you remember this. These creatures are not out there just taking "stuff". This happens too often around the country- they are taking lives in the process.

The laws should be dumping ALL of the burden on THEM- and it doesn't.

People need to understand the castle doctrine as it applies to Louisiana law. Many people do not.

I don't agree with it, but I thought it is common knowledge that you could not shoot for trespassing or theft until violence was shown or until they enter your home/vehicle. I think he probably should be able to shoot in this case but I think currently this is not legal unfortunately.

That's why its important to have a throw down piece. I thought this was common knowledge.

well did they try to open his truck doors or not?

Unfortunately for this guy, that’s the law. You cannot defend property with deadly force, and if they were merely on his property and did not enter the home then he does not have a reasonable belief of a threat of imminent harm.

I know that’s not what the OT wants to hear, but that’s the law.

Texas is so much closer on this subject to making things harder on the criminals instead of their victims- and they sure seem to be doing a lot better than we are in LA.
Criminals have a much safer "working environment" on this side of the Sabine River.

No fingerprints on the truck doors. Regardless, firing at a vehicle driving away is not a good look. I'm not "anti gun" or anything. If those kids were running off Seth's property and jumped into the truck and sped off, I'd have a little more sympathy for Seth.

Seth Fontenot should be in jail for the rest of his life. He fired three shots at a vehicle driving away from his property hitting all three passengers and killing one(15 years old).

Sounds like Seth Fontenot is a pretty good shot. Good for him. I have no problem with this kind of shite whatsoever.

fricked around. Found out.

I predict this guy will claim he thought he saw a gun, making it self defense.

Regardless, I would still vote not guilty if I was on the jury

Pretty sure you can't do that unless your life is in immediate danger.

Same. The attempted 2nd degree murder seems like a bit much, particularly if this guy was an otherwise good citizen with no prior history of thuggery. And in Lafayette Parish he has a good chance of a sympathetic jury.

Maybe these youths were just trying to recover their soccer ball they accidentally kicked over his fence?

Tell me again why no one wanted to know why a 15 year old was out and about in the middle of the night slow rolling thru a neighborhood? Of course they were STM kids too and parents likely thought they were angels.

Once again, how is the victim supposed to know that in the commission of the crime? What normal person is willing to take the chance that they won’t try to kill them if are in that situation?

I have always been told never pull out your firearm unless you intend to shoot and kill that person. No warning shots. So unless your life is immediately in danger, don’t even bother. Obviously the real world is more complicated than that but there have been enough people who have ended up in trouble over warning shots that it doesn’t seem worth it.

You’re a fricking idiot.

They were on his property to commit theft. They were actively trying to harm him, dumbass.
