I would argue two radically different groups of people are behind those two things.
Who said it was only one group? Can you turn off your politics for even a second?

And it seems unnecessary to complain about Covid restrictions in every post.
Sorry for providing a relevant example of this state being run by morons as evidence for the next thing they will be morons about.
I also post about many many things that aren't covid restrictions.

We only got the kinds of gambling politicians can get kickbacks on.
If they had figured out how to do it with pot, we would have been the first state to legalize.

Regardless of what people think about weed, the tax revenue generated would be a game changer for the state.
Folks from neighboring states will be contributing to your coffers, too.

If this passes can we shut up about Republicans voting with their bibles?
It's not the 1980s anymore. Republicans are not fighting gay marriage or marijuana. It's taken our politicians a long while to figure this out though.
Republicans have moved socially to the middle, Democrats have moved socially to "real" fascism.

Louisiana lawmakers on Tuesday approved a bill to legalize marijuana in the state as well as a separate decriminalization proposal in committee votes, with additional cannabis reform proposals slated for consideration on Thursday.
Following debate, the House Administration of Criminal Justice Committee advanced the legalization legislation in a 7-5 vote and the decriminalization bill with a 6-5 tally. They now head to the full chamber.
The broader proposal would allow adults 21 and older to purchase and possess marijuana from licensed retailers. Possession of up to two and a half pounds of cannabis would be lawful. Regulators would be tasked with creating a permit for adults to grow up to six plants for personal use.

The issue with sports gambling is a battle between the big licensed casinos and video poker casinos. John Georges wants sports gambling at the truck stop casinos to feed his video poker empire. The big casinos want sports gambling only at the licensed casinos like the Belle, Harrah’s, and L’Auberge. End result is no one gets sports gambling.
Odds are, something similar is going to happen with recreational weed if passed.
The pharmacies who are licensed to distribute medical want to keep their exclusive rights to being the only distributors for recreational as well. LSU and Southern want to keep their duopoly on growing pot. The bars and alcohol distributors want to be able to sell pot in bars, and so do grocers. Ag folks want to be able to commercially grow pot as a row crop like soybeans.
The real fight won’t be over making it legal, but who gets to grow and sell it.
God forbid it just be whoever wants to grow and sell it gets to grow and sell it.
frick Freedom! Am I right???

You mean hemp? Hemp is a huge opportunity for Louisiana. Unless we want to keep cutting 8 year old pines.

The number marijuana overdoses is going to skyrocket because of this.

Tax revenue is the least compelling reason to legalize out of all of them.
Tax and regulate..
A regressive tax
Overburdening regulations (that leave the black market alive)
Yeah, I hate that reason for legalization with a passion.

Both the republican candidates for governor in the last election cycle were anti-marijuana. Abraham was even against increasing access to medical marijuana.
Abraham, whose pharmacies serve a population of approximately 6,000 people, has sold over 1.5 million doses of opioids. fricking pos is on record that opioids are better and safer for patients than medical marijuana.

Jesus, they're really going in hot on this one. Isn't the limit in most legal states an ounce or two?

If LA passes this, that leaves Texas bordered by three states that have. Which means, much like gambling, it'll never happen in Texas.

Pharmacists and their lobby will block this. They invested a lot in med marijuana and won’t lose the investment to across the board legalization.
What investments have pharmacists made that lose value after legalization? Unless you’re talking about the lobbying costs to get medical marijuana legalized in the first place.
Serious question - because it seems to me that most of not all of the folks who have invested in medical marijuana would be in a better position with a larger market.
