Looks like this bill to legalize recreational marijuana could get out of this committee and get a vote by the full House. Rep. Scott McKnight, a Baton Rouge Republican, said he's supporting it. Would be a huge milestone for the effort to legalize marijuana.

Edit: I realize it says "could get out of" and not "got out of committee", so my title is a little off, but it definitely appears to be heading to a full House vote by all accounts

No chance.

Thanks God...

Eta: I assume the people downvoting think the above says "Thank God". What it actually says is "ThankS God" meaning religious conservatives are the reason this will not pass.

LA will be last to do this, much in the same way we will be among the last to rid ourselves of COVID bullshite.

Downvoters want to explain what they disagree with? This state is run by clowns.

Some dickhead from a podunk place like Washington, LA with a buddy that works for the penal system will raise hell and scream “what about the children!?” Especially since there’s about 10 kids in a place like Washington, LA

I honestly have no idea, but this is Louisiana, so my guess would be 0%

Sheriffs, booze lobby and the private prison lobby will kill it.

Definitely agree. LA will be among the last, but it is a positive sign that at least it is coming up for a vote and there are some R's that are behind it.

It won't pass, but it sets it up to recalibrate and vote again in bout 5-10 years, after it is de-criminalized at the Federal level.

Part of what’s aiding the weed bills in the legislature this year is another bill that taxes weed and sends the revenue to all the usual suspects that oppose weed. The po po get a cut, the teachers union gets one, the hospitals, etc. By making sure that the folks who normally oppose weed are getting a payoff from it, the weed bills are suddenly sailing through with bipartisan support in the house. However, I fear that will change in the Senate.

How are they working to get this done when we haven't even voted on it but they can't seem to pass anything that has to do with fantasy sports or sport gambling even though we voted on that and approved it years ago.

I am not against weed, but damn I do not want weed shops lining our streets like I saw in another state recently.

The Gene mills types have too much power in LA. Won’t happen until that changes

But you’re okay with liquor stores and mattress stores? What a weird concern.

My guess is that most localities would not have it. New Orleans would make a KILLING if it was allowed weed shops. Perhaps limited to a certain area.
