Tool is an absolutely incredible band is still producing high level art.
I'm convinced Danny Carey has a prehensile dick and can drum using all five appendages.
Try to count into "Pneuma". That shite's some crazy arse time signature like 33/16 and they're notorious for shifting time signature and phrasing every two or three measures in some songs.
Maynard's lyrics do get a bit naval-gazing and high-concept for my tastes, but I love the technical aspects to their music otherwise.

Pnuema might be their masterpiece and it came out last year.
It was incredible live, definitely the best song I think I have ever heard them do live.

So cool. Only ~300 of those guitars ever produced in the first place. One of Martin's only acoustic-electric models (which wasn't and still isn't really Martin's thing ...). That guitar would be worth about $20k even if Cobain had never touched it. Pretty rare find.

Kurt Cobain
Layne Staley forgot more about making good music than Kurt Cobain ever knew.

Alice in Chains, Mother Love Bone/Pearl Jam, and Soundgarden are three acts that were far better, and that's just the low hanging fruit.
IMO Nirvana is better compared to bands like the Pixies, the Melvins, and Sonic Youth -- all of which blended punk, noise pop, and sludge metal. Of those bands, Nirvana was probably the most accessible, particularly the Nevermind album. Bleach was less polished, and by In Utero they were clearly headed more towards a less accessible metal aesthetic. But Nevermind really hit that sweet spot between heavy and poppy, which is why it became so popular.
All those other bands you mentioned are more influenced by classic rock and metal, less so by punk and art rock. The fact is that 'grunge' was more aesthetic than a coherent musical style like ... say ... bluegrass or ska or swing. Grunge was a bunch of really different bands that shared a veneer of distorted guitar sounds and angsty, esoteric lyricism.
Thus, it is really not fair to say that Nirvana wasn't as "good" as those other bands when they weren't even competing in the same musical space.

Grohl should've taken his own life instead of Cobain. Not that Cobain would've done anything else significant, but the world would be so much better without the Foo Fighters

I bet the sound hole smells like a junkies car.

One of the most overated artist in modern times..... a nice guitar though.
I've never heard anyone claim Kurt was a fantastic lyricist, singer, or guitarist. But I'll tell you what, he headed a band that churned out some incredibly good songs and albums. Sometimes imperfection is the point.

It just depends on what kind of music you like.
Nirvana is rooted in punk rock.
If classic/arena rock is more your thing, you'd probably prefer Pearl Jam.
Hard rock --> Alice in Chains.

Seattle in the late 80's/early 90's was this weird melting pot of bands where members flowed back and forth.
Yep, it was a great rock era during those years in Seattle, and influenced a lot of other bands nation wide. But sad to say, it seemed to implode almost as soon as it hit big- Kurt's death was only the beginning. I was glad I was able to see almost all the Seattle bands, in some cases, numerous times. Only one I missed was AIC, because Layne Staley was sick and they cancelled the show I had tickets for! But RIP to Layne, Chris, Andrew, Kurt and all the rest...

Maybe the new owner will actually know how to play it.

The most praise I'll give Nirvana is they had a few decent songs. Kurt is as overrated and untalented as Jim Morrison's fat dead arse. He suck started a shotgun at the magic dead rocker age of 27 so he became a saint. Easily the shittiest of the Seattle bands.

Other Nirvana items that were up for auction this weekend, as part of Julien’s Auctions’ “Music Icons” event, included Cobain’s setlist (winning bid: $10,240), guitar pedal ($8,960), and lyric sheet ($5,760) from the Unplugged concert; the silver lamé shirt Cobain wore in Nirvana’s “Heart-Shaped Box” video ($25,000); a Nevermind poster signed by all three band members ($56,250); and even Cobain’s prescription Prilosec bottle from 1992 ($3,840).
Holy shite, they auctioned a Prilosec bottle.
I’d love to see a documentary about the people who buy this shite.

Blows my mind that somebody would pay that for a guitar
