NOLA.com update. Really not much info.

quote:

Several float riders removed from the Krewe of Carrollton parade on Sunday were accused of “aggressively” throwing beads at New Orleans police officers, police spokesperson Jonathan Morris said Monday as krewe leaders said they were working to determine exactly what occurred.

In a prepared statement, Carrollton krewe captain Wayne Lee said krewe leaders discussed the incident following the parade with a New Orleans police captain . They planned to meet again later “to gather additional details.”

“The safety of our riders and parade-goers is paramount,” Lee wrote in the statement. “The Krewe’s Disciplinary Board will thoroughly address this matter, along with any related issues, to ensure all facts are obtained and properly reviewed.”

rode Bacchus a few times back in the day. we always wore safety glasses on the float for all the beads being thrown back at us. One year when we hit Canal a certain youth who you would certainly see in large number on Canal every day threw a bunch of stuff at us trying to hurt us. Needless to say, he got bombed - was it juvenile of us to stoop to his level? Yes it was, and it was satisfying.

The Krewe has already lost the messaging battle and not sure they can win it back, at least on social media.

In LA attending a parade means you assume the risk of being hit by something thrown from a float. You can sue but it will be tossed from court and you will be paying attorney's fees.*

My injury happened in the eighties, before the injury lawyer culture really sank its teeth into the state. It’s possible I might have gotten some redress. Interestingly, the doctor who treated me never supplied me with the paperwork I would have needed to file a claim back then, if I were so inclined. He was a member of the Rex organization, if memory serves. The Old Boys Network, alive and well, working to protect each other, and no one else.

Word on the street is that they were very generous to the chirrun at the parade. As they should be.

Mardi Gras is Trashy

Mardi Gras is a weird mix. It definitely has its trashy element since it's a free show/party basically and that always brings out some considerable trash. And when you throw in alcohol...

But Mardi Gras also is extremely wholesome for many out there who go out of their way to make their kids and grandkids happy because kids love it so much. Then you have grandmas and grandpas , generations of families out there, and people randomly making friends and just having a good time with total strangers who they would normally never associate with. It's a miracle there aren't way more issues/fights considering the hundreds of thousands of people out there during the Mardi Gras season. It's a unique thing for sure.

WOAH NOW! Hold the phone with this reasonable, well thought out and entirely sane position. This is the OT Mister. If you aren't going to be hyperbolic then get yourself to another board right now.

It isn't for many stories that I'll blindly side with the police, but this is absolutely one of them. NOPD have their hands more full these weeks than some third world country police do in a year.

Also as someone who's taken a full, sealed bag of beads to the face - throw the book at those frickers.

problem is most riders throw the bag of beads and a not single bead

This is exactly what happened to us four or five years ago. This kid was probably 13 or 14 that was standing by us …I didn’t even know him. He got hit with it i heard it. I was standing pretty close to him and it fell on the ground. I picked it up and I threw it right back at the fricking float hard as I could.

Cocksuckes absolutely did it on purpose

You were refused your medical paperwork? You are saying the Rex guy was running interference for the Bacchus parade?

Doubtful.

All I know is that when I asked his nurse for my paperwork, she shrugged and looked in the direction of the doctor. I was too young and naive to realize what was happening then. It only started to make sense later. I realize that Rex and Bacchus are very different organizations, but who knows who was in that doctor’s network of influence.

The amount of people throwing shite at riders grow every year. That said, trashy people ride in parades now. Uptown went from 8-10 parades to 30 plus. More spots need to be filled and some spots are filled with unstable, immature, douche bags.
