I dont deny it happens. If you're drunk you probably arent making the decision to take some heat off of it. I got on my float pretty sober and even a soft toss with a lot of arc is enough to give someone a slap in the face if they arent paying attention. If you want to get it further back you have to put something on it. The answer is to have them out of the packs so the beads arent condensed but people leave them on the ground. Ive since giving up spending money on things people might want.

NOPD has decided not to press charges and will let the Krewe handle it internally.

So someone's palms got greased or NOPD determined internally that they overreacted by removing the entire float of 41 people.

Just as likely, they realized it's a pretty big can of worms they didn't want to open up on what they would suddenly now have to start "policing" at mardi gras.

Is there no bodycam or other footage? No pics of any damages or injuries. The details in describing the “aggressive” throwing have also been lacking.

I am starting to wonder if this was a gross overreaction driven by ego. If I am on the other side of the float I want compensation for my ride being ended.

damn. i mean, hindsight being 20/20, you'd think if he was having chest pains all day, he probably should have gotten checked out instead of drinking and doing god only knows what else. hopefully ole boy didn't leave a family and kids behind.

And the lack of details on the incident have let the narratives run wild all over social media.

The reporting on the incident makes it sound like an entire float maliciously targeted NOPD when it just as easily could have been 1 rider, the police not being able to identify that 1 rider, and then going the grade school route of punishing everyone because no one would fess up.

Probably because they had nothing to identify exactly which rider(s) were throwing with malicious intent.

Even with video, you'd need it to be from an angle where you can clearly see both the rider and the target that was being maliciously thrown at. Otherwise, good luck trying to prove beyond reasonable doubt exactly who threw it when there was 20 other riders on that side of the float.

I learned on my first ride years ago to make sure the person is paying attention after bombing a few people not paying attention.

I would just think if there was egregious damage to city vehicles or injury to an officer we would have heard details or seen images. We have not even heard where the officers were standing and how they were hit or "targeted" or what was thrown.. If we never hear or see details my gut goes with egotistical reaction that ruined a lot of innocent riiders Mardi Gras.

You gotta think it was pretty bad for NOPD to actually want to do something.

This is correct and and it was naively accepted that the whole float was guilty until proven otherwise. This board is a perfect example. Just look at my previous comment that was downvoted where I said something sounds fishy. Then again there's lots of NOLA haters and Mardi Gras haters here.
I find it hard to believe that the NOPD wouldn't make an example out of these guys if they had a strong case,

It's been 2 days.

Surely, they could release something more than the vague details that have been provided, thus far.

We saw a picture of multiple officers posing in front of an empty float within an hour or 2 of the incident and no pictures of any NOPD vehicle damage, as one of the rumors circulating claims.

No one took a picture of a broken NOPD windshield with the thousands of people walking up and down St. Charles?

That doesn't sound like something NOPD would do. Especially for not having charges.

They told people to get off a float as punishment. Solved an issue before it got worse. The krewe not defending the riders probably says enough.

Live and learn.

If the parade organizers think the riders were in the right the parade org will.

Not dismissing a pussy cop is the reasoning but seeing this done makes me believe that there was a catalyst.
