Man, that is terrible. It is one of my fears.

Right now we are in the midst of the worst lightning storm I've seen in......maybe my life and I worry about homes getting struck. I mean it has been constant for 20+ minutes now.

Are you in BR? A friend of mine in BR just lost everything in a house fire yesterday.

Same here. It's an absolutely helpless feeling and one of my biggest fears.

True, it can kill you and your family just the same but I feel like usually you have a bit more time to react and get to safety.

My mom (widowed) lost her house, which was for sale, to a fire in April. After the shock of losing all her junk faded, I was able to talk her off the ledge and she ended up walking with six figures for all that trash she was about to throw away in the downsizing plus the value of the house, then we just closed the sale of the 3acres it sits on in BFE yesterday.

She’s now a millionaire that never made more than $45,000 a year.

It was the best thing that could have happened to her. Craziest part is that the fire started just after midnight on my old man’s birthday when she was in another state.

I came close to checking out yesterday morning. Lightning blew out and shattered my upstairs hallway window.

Lightning struck a home not far from me a few years ago. Hit it right in the center of the roof. It blew insulation out into the yard. No one was home and insurance paid to have the house practically gutted down to the studs, completely rewiried, and rebuilt in the inside. It did a number on it.

It can be this, health, or various other things. Be grateful for today.

I understand feeling the loss for a neighbor or a friend in a time of struggle or a family death, but where as a grown man order of things does “crying your eyes out” come into the equation?

Empathy is good. Men are allowed to cry.

That being said, a grown man sobbing uncontrollably because his neighbors house burned down is insane.

“I teared up”? Ok.

It’s really good that we don’t have to fight world wars.

I was a thousand miles away LOL

They sent in independent investigators and concluded it started as an electrical fire in an appliance. Nobody was home, burned for a few hours in a contained zone before it was noticed and fire dept called. Smoke damage totaled the part that wasn’t burned out

Has this ever been answered? The OP’s kiss your loved one and nothing is guaranteed comments do imply that someone did, but I am used to posts like this explicitly saying a death occurred even if being vague about details to not ID anyone or bring up any gory details.
