Why would you bump a year old thread when you already posted your ONE other post in this thread a year ago saying damn near the same thing?
Both of your post are in this thread spread out by over a year...

I'll admit I see random bumped threads and completely forget I posted in them before. Have posted the same sentiment twice without noticing. But not when it's the only post I've ever made on the site. And I'm never the one to dig up the particular thread.

People that make their kids say sir or ma'am must have self esteem issues.
My parents always taught me to say sir and ma'am to the elderly though. I think as a kid, anyone over the age of like 20 seems elderly but as an adult, I will still say it anyone who looks 80+.

Man I was hoping someone would bump this thread!

My parents taught me to do this with non family members. Like friends parents and family friends and what not. I think you can instill discipline and respect and still have them call the parents Mom and Dad.

2 posts ever.
Both posts in this thread.
Both posts were bumps months after the fact and curious how you even dug up this thread not once but twice. There's something weird about this but I hope I'm not embarrassing you by calling you out on it, sir. I can tell you are obviously one serious AF dude about being called sir

My kids were taught to say maam & sir from the moment they began talking. My momma said something to me about her never making me say maam to her but only to other adults. I told her do not interfere bc my kids will say sir & maam. They are now 19, 17 & 14 all of them address me with Yes Ma'am & No Ma'am.

I don't want my kids calling me sir. I never said sir or ma'am to my parents. That's for non-family.

One thing I remember is that if you were going to mess up and forget, you better say “yes” instead of “yeah”.
“Yeah” would get you the belt every time.

My parents always stressed using "Sir" and "Ma'am" to adults when I was growing up. I didn't necessarily have to address my parents themselves with that title, but definitely the other grown ups. I teach my kids the same.

I think everyone knows where I stand on this issue.

My kids say yes/no sir/ma’am to my wife and I as well as other adults. With the way I hear kids talking these days, it separates them from the crowd and on many occassions they/we have been complimented on how polite they are.
Kids absolutely love compliments and I feel it just reinforces to them why we require them to speak to others with respect no matter who they are. Hell just two weeks ago I went to get some new shoes and the lady gave my daughter a free tshirt bc she was so well behaved and polite. Nothing major but it was crazy how excited and proud she was that she got a tshirt for being polite. Shes probably told half our family about it.
