How was this skeleton such an object of desire in the 90’s?

She was not an object of desire, but she was sucking and fricking all the people who could get her into magazines

We questioned it at the time as well. The lanky, skinny, heroin-addled look was all the rage in the modeling world on the 90’s.
Times have definitely changed. Now “models” look like this:

i'm not that old and i can remember when thin and pail was in. safe to say we overcorrected as a society.

Speaking for myself, she wasn’t.

The 90s were peak “supermodel as superstar”. Kate Moss was a supermodel back when that word still had its original definition, before it morphed into “extremely attractive person”.

They were all on diet pills (meth) and starving in the 90s.
If you wanted you could get one of them pretty easily:

Yep. Was just looking back on various celebs that, at the time, the media was going wild about how fat they were or were close to being. And by my memory, I remember agreeing. I Googled those photos today, and none of them are "fat".
Kate Upton in Sports Illustrated. Kate Winslet in Titanic. Renee Zellweger in original Bridget Jones Diary. Jessica Simpson during that famous live performance where she got so much hate.
I remember that Jessica performance in particular being INSANE with media and people alike saying she was a complete whale. Until I Googled today, my memory was that as well. She was thicker for a celebrity at the time, and thicker than she had been before, but certainly not world-go-crazy fat.
It's crazy what a different world it was and how the media/people around us can shape what we think so much.

People thought she was skinny and unhealthy looking back then too.

The 60s had Twiggy so I guess each generation has someone different like this. I’d rather see that than the big dancing chick in diabetes pills commercials.

It’ll cycle back, I doubt these big chicks have a very long shelf life.
Everything we see has been seen happen before in history. There’s only so much that hasn’t been done before it’s recycled.

I never thought she was hot.
I was young then but just thought she was a girl. Cindy Crawford was a woman.
