You're easily confused. They're all connected. The original point that someone else made was that, the industry as a whole doesn't typically pass savings down to the consumer when the cost of crude falls. Now, they are not making the same money and want the consumer to feel sorry for them.

Oilpatch baws responded with "but OPEC sets the prices," which misses the entire point.

I’m not confused. You just don’t know what you’re talking about.

1) Refining is a HIGHLY competitive industry. They do pass those savings to consumers. It just doesn’t feel that way because of the impact of taxes, distribution costs, etc.

2) Upstream and downstream are different industries. Yes, they are connected in the sense that crude oil prices drive gasoline prices and gasoline demand drives crude oil prices. But they are different industries with different players.

The American producers who will be impacted by the current shite show have nothing to do with the price of gasoline relative to the price of crude oil.
