Too many Americans really thought they could take a 19-day weekend and Mr. Rich Guy would keep paying everyone, as if he were a leprechaun with a magic pot of gold. It wasn't their fault, you see... muh virus!

Now these people (and a lot of collateral victims, like you and your ex-employees) are getting a very hard lesson in economics, and in the emptiness of the "Just World Fallacy."

Morons.

Totally appreciate what you did but most corporations hire consultants that know zero about you or your work ethic. They make suggestions for RIFs and it is done usually around the holiday season with zero intention of hiring you back. The fact that you are a small business owner - I can totally get that. Most people that are jaded are those that have been sniped by a complete stranger. Good luck and I hope you hire all of them back plus some more.

A friend who's a doctor just layed off two of his staff and dropped everyone else to 20 hours a week. He's now doing telemedicine from home.

This is affecting people across all types of businesses and will change the structure of a lot of businesses in the future.

They are still updating as info becomes available.

Don't fill out these SBA applications yourself, or you could get screwed. Click the wrong button, and, you may not be able to get the payroll part of it forgiven. Get someone to help you do it.

Sorry to hear brother. I know it sucks. But, I have full confidence we'll all be back in business by Easter and probably sooner. Our President cares about the people. We haven't had that in a long time.

About 5 minutes ago I had to lay off the majority of me and my brother's workforce. We had 38 full time employees , I just laid off 32 of them and just kept a skeleton crew for orders that are outstanding. I was able to pay for the next paycheck and any outstanding commissions/bonus. Hopefully by Easter I can call them with a ressurection of business. That is 32 families that I was responsible for . If people don't think bosses don't care or make light of these things ,they have no idea what this does.

I don't understand this. The stimulus package is going to pass either today or tomorrow and it's designed exactly for small businesses like yours. There are going to be SBA grants available to you to cover all of your expenses that you are having keeping your employees on. Since these are grants they don't have to be repaid.

I've had to lay one person back in the time I was a manager. It sucked. I can't imagine what you had to go through. I've mostly worked at companies small enough to know the owners. Every one of them cared about the employees and never made those types of decisions lightly.

The times I've had bosses or managers that didn't seem to care as much was when I was dealing with middle management at larger companies. It's hard to be callous towards people when you know them and have some ideas about their daily lives.

Here's to you roaring back after this pause.

ETA: To the folks bringing politics into this, piss off.
