Had someone coming out today to fix my roof in Lakeview. They called and said, “yesterday we had another one of our trucks broken into so the owner has decided that we will not do work in Orleans Parish anymore until the crime is under control.”

Well that’s a first, thanks Latoya! Anyone know of a roofing company that is willing to go into the war zone?

when your commercial auto rates go through the fricking roof cause of stolen vehicles and or assholes looking for fender bender pay days, it's a god damn huge issue for contractors.

Good on them. You need an extra guy just to watch the tools in the truck now

The City is having the same issues right now as a lot of projects have stalled due to security & safety issues so they aren’t working in Orleans.

A colleague shared a change order request for a contractor working a city job saying they will not return to work until a police detail is provided for the duration of the job since they had several robberies plus some of their crew were held up at gunpoint at least once. $250k cost. Would love to see Teddy's response to that.

Gonna have to hire extra security and treat it like the pirates in Somalia.

This needs to be on the first page of responses on the daily NOLA carjacking threads.

Good.

All contractors need to either do this or upcharge for working in a high risk area.

I mean, there is precedence.

They knew the risks involved

The people in charge can say all they want... make all the plans they want.. Nothing is going to happen until they put boots on the ground, whether that be military or more cops..And keep/send these frickers in jail..

I’ll give them a call.

The other company was based out of Jefferson Parish. I’d imagine they’re giving up a huge portion of their revenue if they’re eliminating Orleans Parish. Guess they’re busy enough to where they feel it won’t impact them enough

They need to build a new supermax prison to house these animals. Should build in the east.

Or they've had enough trouble so that they've forecasted out potential earnings and realized that it wouldn't offset stolen tools, vehicles, downtime for injured employees, lawsuits from employees that were mugged, etc.

With all the IDA work i don't blame a Jefferson parish company refusing to do business in Orleans parish. That the luxury of having more work than you can handle, you only do the preferred jobs.

Now, when business slows i bet they will go back into Orleans parish, just not worth it at this time and i agree with them on that call.

This should be front page of NOLA.com and the paper though, showing Teedy and the world how the crime is effecting everyday businesses.

What roofing company was this if you don't mind saying?

This is a bunch of made up bullshite by all you hysterical assholes that don't even live here. I walk to restaurants and stores from my house and I've never once felt unsafe. Keep my city's name out your mouth and go stuff your face at Chili's in BR, hicks.

Good for that company. I know it sucks for you in the meantime, but it may take more companies refusing to do business in the city to wake the PTB up and get them off their asses to clean the place up.
