If you stopped a random person on the street and asked them, which movie do you think they’d be more likely to have seen: Jurassic Park or The Shawshank Redemption?

shawshank, since it plays (played) on cable TV all the time.
Jurrasic park is never just randomly on tv.

Jurassic Park
This is a good point. I was thinking about theater.

If you mean just the original JP then I'd guess Shawshank but if you mean any movie in the JP series then I'd go with those.

I’ve never seen Shawshank Redemption

Yes, but who all stops to watch a movie like that that isn't already predispositioned to like that kind of dull, slow crime drama?
Everyone has seen Jurassic Park. At least once. And they for sure remember it.

Not to be rude but this maybe the worst question ever
JP did over 1 billion at the box office
Shawshank did 73 million
Shawshank is also rated R which makes it extremely difficult to ever get there compared to non R blockbusters

Shawshank Redemption used to come on like every day on TBS for a while; meanwhile, I dont think I have ever seen Jurassic Park on cable.

You should fix that. Its an extremely good film. Not overrated at all.

Claude, how often was the original JP on cable:
quote:
Quite a lot. There isn’t a single authoritative database covering every cable airing from 1995–2026, but the available TV listings give us a pretty good sense of its status as a cable staple.
* 1995: It first aired on NBC on May 7, 1995. It then began appearing on TNT that summer.
* 2000s: It was firmly established as a cable movie, appearing across channels such as TNT, TBS, USA and others. A 2001 industry directory actually listed Jurassic Park among Universal’s “evergreen” cable-film properties.
* 2010: Listings show it on Syfy, TBS and USA, with USA airing it July 31 and Syfy running it Nov. 27–28.
* 2018: TBS was still airing it—in one example, a Sunday-night 9:30 p.m. slot.
* 2019–20: It continued on AMC and TBS. For example, AMC aired it Saturday night in October 2019, while TBS had it multiple times in a single weekend in April 2020.
* A compilation of frequently aired cable movies puts Jurassic Park at #38, with 43 documented airings across AMC, Paramount Network, TBS, A&E, Freeform, Syfy, TNT, USA, WGN America and E! in the particular dataset used.
So how often?
If you’re asking “How many times have I probably seen Jurassic Park advertised/on TV over the last 30 years?”, I’d say it has been hundreds of times nationally, and potentially well over 1,000 total airings when you count all the individual showings across the various cable networks and repeated schedules.
The interesting thing is that it wasn’t just a movie that occasionally appeared on cable—it became one of those permanent cable-library movies, like Twister, The Mummy, The Fugitive, Die Hard, Forrest Gump, etc. A 2026 discussion of the greatest cable movies specifically describes Jurassic Park as one of the films that “basically lived on TBS, TNT, USA, and FX.”

The Jurassic Redemption.....
Fred Flintstone ruins Barney Rubble in a Ponzi Scheme where Barney loses all of his rocks after trying to hit on Wilma.
