He looked 73 over 20 years ago. Are we sure it was definitely corona ?

Bad. May stay up all night playing his records and drinking whiskey
That's a normal night for me. Although now I'm not sure I could make it through one song without breaking down. This one hurts. Like Neil Peart hurt.

One time in 2005 my dad and I went down to Ole Miss to watch them play Arkansas. The morning of the game my dad found a bag of weed in the parking lot of our hotel. “Look what I found,” he said.

That night after the game we went to a gas station to buy papers so we could roll it up. The only papers they had were attached to bags of tobacco, so we bought a bag of Bugler just for the papers.

We smoked a joint and then settled in to watch tv. John Prine was on Austin City Limits, we watched the whole concert in our hotel and it was great. This was right before he won a bunch of Grammys. That’s my favorite John Prine memory, seen him live a few times but this was the best.

And oh what a feeling
When my soul went through the ceiling
And on up into heaven I did rise

When I die let my ashes flow down the Green River
Let my soul roll on up to the Rochester Dam
I'll be halfway to heaven with Paradise waitin'
Just five miles away from wherever I am

RIP Mr. Prine. I was fortunate enough to have grown up on your beautiful, sad, and hilarious music, and to have seen you almost two dozen times in concert. I'll be sure to indoctrinate my kids with your songwriting the way my dad did to me.

I'm going to have my first cry in several years now. frick.

It’s an overused term I know, but his music seriously had heart in a way that you can’t fake.

He was a brilliant song writer, may he Rest In Peace. His self titled album was my favorite.

The very first vinyls I ever got my hands on were John Prine and Diamonds in The Rough, courtesy of my dad. I've worn them down to static at this point.

When I get to heaven, I'm gonna shake God's hand
Thank him for more blessings than one man can stand
Then I'm gonna get a guitar and start a rock-n-roll band
Check into a swell hotel; ain't the afterlife grand?
And then I'm gonna get a cocktail: vodka and ginger ale
Yeah, I'm gonna smoke a cigarette that's nine miles long
I'm gonna kiss that pretty girl on the tilt-a-whirl
'Cause this old man is goin' to town
