So the mom could have embezzled $5-8 million and probably nobody would have found out. She would have been set for life. But no, she had to steal $100 million, not sure if greed or stupidity played a part, or both.

It’s not like she worked for it. She probably got banged out by some fat Hollywood dude when she was 12 and then it’s like here’s a recording contract

She was huge in the 90's so it doesn't surprise me.

I called my momma, she was out for a walk
Consoled a cup of coffee but it didn't want to talk
So I picked up a paper, it was more bad news
More hearts being broken or people being used
Pretty prophetic, Jewel.

Yeah, she didn't just do music, she had a brand. Didn't she do a book on poetry? Starred in some Hallmark-type movies and was a judge on talent tv shows.

Aren't her parents the Alaska folks? Thought they were on good terms?
Atz on Alaska, The Last Frontier, is her dad. He and her mom had to have divorced decades ago because he's been married to the same woman (Jewel's stepmom now) for the entirety of the show. She and her son have been on that a handful of times. So, she seems to be on good terms with that part of her family. Her mom has never even been mentioned on that show that I have seen, though I haven't watched it in a while.

The mother may have simply stolen the money
Or, working as her daughter's manager, she may have made poor investments on her daughter's behalf, which were still lucrative for the mother herself, through commissions and other fees. So the daughter/client lost money, but the mother/manager profited.
Perfectly legal.
I was just last night reading the autobio of Chris Hillman (The Byrds) who said their manager negotiated a big advance from their record label, which left the band deep in debt for years but gave the manager a large commission.
Terry Knight signed Grand Funk to a personal contract, and THEN sold them to Capitol Records for a 16% royalty. He got 10%, the band got 2% apiece.
Andrew Oldham pulled the same thing on The Rolling Stones. He got a huge % off the top from the record company, then took his management fee out of The Stones' share.
Oldham later sold the Stones to Allan Klein. Keith Richards described being under contract to Klein as "$25,000,000 worth of experience".

The mom looks like Bruce Jenner.

She didn't. She's exaggerating because she knows today's media won't call bullshite on her lies. She had one hit record that had two songs that went to number 2. That's it. Considering it was her debut and she was unknown prior to it, you can bet her contract gave the record company most of the profit from the sales of her record.

you'd just spend it all on hookers and blow, and what you didn't you'd probably just waste

She also was married to Ty Murray who is a shareholder of PBR. So I’m sure she walked away with some money in her pocket.
I would still show her a good time jacked up grill and all.

This is a case of speaking of what you assume. I'm no fan, but just listen to her on JRE. She basically said she didn't sign one of those upfront money BS contracts from RCA/Sony/etc. and gambled on herself. After she got regionally popular there was a bidding war between the labels and as such was able to make a lot more profit from touring and sales as compared others in the industry.
