I don't understand why Jewel didn't notice. It's a massive amount of money.
Complete trust in her mother as financial manager, perhaps, plus a few ginned-up financial position statements.
If she was 34 when she discovered it, that's about when she married Ty Murray. He might have had something to do with the discovery.

She didn’t embezzle her daughter’s good looks

How old are you? She was a massive deal in the late 90s. Like Taylor Swift level
38, I remember the 90's well. The only song of hers I remember is "Who will save your soul"
Edit: oh and "Hands"

I've always wondered what happened between Ty and her.

In August, Jewels was on tour with Train, Blues Traveler, Thunderstorm Artis and Will Anderson when the bus went up in flames.
Train, Jewel and Blues Traveler would probably be a heck of a show.

You know she wrote over 30 verses to this song? After HS she went to some music school in Michigan and it was her first time out of Alaska. She received a scholarship and when they said "everything is paid for" she literally thought everything. She had no money on her so she had to find away to get food that first day, etc..
Anyway, so one summer while at school she didn't feel like going back to Alaska for the summer so she decided to travel the country by bus. She had her guitar and would play music on the street to make money for a bus ticket. She said when she was a kid her dad would play the guitar and he would make up songs about the people they would see. So she was sort of doing that and just had all of these verses. That became the very first song recorded for her first album.
I think Jewel is pretty fascinating. I remember reading something or hearing something about her relationship with her mom and that it wasn't good and at the time she didn't want to elaborate, but you have to be a shite person to do that to your kid. I am sure Jewel would have given her whatever she asked for, but some people can't help themselves.

I think the family has been/is independently wealthy from Jewel. I’m not sure that she provided anything monetarily to their homestead and has never been asked to, so maybe that has played a role in her seemingly good relationship with her father.
They are independently wealthy. The other guy, Otto, is a big wheel in agriculture who serves on various boards and such. They operate a sizable ranch/cattle business. One of the sisters runs a lodge that I think the other family members are part owners in. They aren't hurting for money.

She was at the top of the game but she wasn’t there for nearly as long as Taylor Swift who is just now embarking on a stadium only tour. Jewel was a flash in the pan compared to a Taylor Swift. She hit it big on one of her first albums. Probably got cents on the dollar for every album sold. She was touring but not selling out stadiums or arenas. She probably had some brand deals but nothing like the younger and hotter females of the time. Anyone thinking she made $100 million in take home money doesn’t know how the business works.

I was so in love with Jewel back in the 90s. I wanted to put many babies in her.
