i graduated from catholic high in 1984...for three of those years our class "counselor" was a parish priest on assignment at the school. we hung out with him during and after class, we spent weekends at a camp in lake verret he had access to, he spent evenings at my and other kids houses for dinner and such, i and a few other considered him a close friend and mentor, and he stayed in touch with many of us during college and thereafter

in the late 90's he took a leave of absence from the priesthood (he was a pastor at a parish in pierre part)...i found out when i called to see if he would officiate my wedding. shortly thereafter, it came out that the church had settled a case involving him and a teenage boy, going back to a time troublingly close to the mid-80's

since then, i have not set foot in mass for anything other than a holiday or marriage/funeral, and i've not given a dime of my money nor a minute of my time to CHS.

De La Sale had their Christian Brother principle convicted of sexual abuse on a student 10 or 15 years ago.

A second collection has been standard in the church for quite some time now. They typically associate it with a cause, such as an ill parishioner or poverty drive. It's not like they are passing around a second plate to pay off sex abuse allegations.

you can spot all of the Jesuit grads by seeing the posts of "probably happened at all nola catholic schools". classic deflection tactic
