This.
I suspect this is a Catholic Church issue and not solely a Jesuit one.
i spent 14 years at catholic schools, and never ever have heard a peep about any misconduct. Even decades later

Because it’s covered up.

Why only get them for $500k? You could threaten to go national and probably get another $500k out of it

Really? This is from 2003.
Eta: and just this past year...

quote:
Bishops and other leaders of the Roman Catholic Church in Pennsylvania covered up child sexual abuse by more than 300 priests over a period of 70 years, persuading victims not to report the abuse and law enforcement not to investigate it, according to a searing report issued by a grand jury on Tuesday.
The report, which covered six of the state’s eight Catholic dioceses and found more than 1,000 identifiable victims, is the broadest examination yet by a government agency in the United States of child sexual abuse in the Catholic Church. The report said there are likely thousands more victims whose records were lost or who were too afraid to come forward.
It catalogs horrific instances of abuse: a priest who raped a young girl in the hospital after she had her tonsils out; a victim tied up and whipped with leather straps by a priest; and another priest who was allowed to stay in ministry after impregnating a young girl and arranging for her to have an abortion.
I suspect that honestly this sort of behavior is nothing new in the upper echelons of the church going back centuries.
I am also not Catholic, so take it for what its worth.

And we only had 1 priest at each school.

My two sons graduated from Jesuit. I can say unequivocally that they had good relationships with priests, brothers, and scholastics. They viewed them as mentors, and still communicate with some of them today. If I had another son, I would send him there without hesitation.
What's happening in the church is a tragedy. As long as our institutions (religious and secular alike) are comprised of and administered by men, any evil is possible.

Right. I went to Jesuit and never heard or witnessed anything either. But apparently it happened. Although maybe not while I was there. I don't recognize the names in the OP. Ft. Boudreaux was suddenly removed and relocated while I was there though for an incident that purportedly happened years before.

Why are you speaking as if a priest or brother is more likely to be a gay pedophile than a regular citizen?
You understand the percentages are the same right? That Brother Bill is as likely to touch your pecker as Mr. Jabroni the English teacher?

I'll hang up and listen

The cover up is a different discussion. Your argument is it's apparently a lock that this has happened at all catholic schools. Why? Is it a lock to have happened at every school?
Posted on 9/20/18 at 9:48 am to lsupride87
If we dig deeper is this really different than the women teachers that get busted? I know we laugh about that side of it, but I don’t think we can pretend it is just a male issue. I have to say I sometimes wonder why some young females want to go teach at an all boy school.

Why, because regardless of whatever stats you will show (which are flawed anyway because the entire discussion is about how they are covered up)I believe an organization asking for celibate men has a propensity higher than normal to get people who are pedophiles
Posted on 9/20/18 at 9:55 am to lsupride87
Yes, the expectation is that the propensity should be lower. It's why it's a big deal to us that it's not.
It doesn't mean reality changes because we are shocked to find people are the same regardless of their stated position or beliefs.

It sounds like you've seen studies that don't jive with your hypothesis, so you dismiss them as untrue.

How can you get any true constant on how many pedophiles are in any subset of group unless you had a mind reading device? Seriously explain it to me

I'm not a fan of the catholic church at all, I'm just observing here. I actually tell my wife and MIL all the time about how terrible it is, for more than just this issue. You can put that bean in the "he's an idiot" bucket.
You can account for variables in studies, FYI.
