Not illegal

I wasnt trying to give you a legal excuse. A person doesn’t have to break the law to make you knock a phone out of their hand. Hell, I didn’t even get personal with you and you got triggered. Happens to all of us.

kid definitely failed the "situational awareness" part of the test.

As did those dumb arse cops. Assaulting someone with a ton of people taking video and pictures.

Still nobody able to come up with a scenario that would make the cop's actions appropriate.

From what I can tell, cops got a lot of explaining to do and tough to see how they will be able to. But I'll take a shot at giving you a scenario.

What if, when the cop turned and walked away, the kid threatened to pull a gun out and kill him?

Cops do this sort of thing, and defend their fellow cops who do it, and then act surprised when people don’t trust them, don’t help them solve crimes, and sometimes commit violence on them.

IOW cops are dumb for not eliminating this behavior

Either the kid did one of two things before the filming started. Something illegal or something legal. If the first, the cop should have arrested him. If the 2nd, the cop should leave him alone. Smacking his phone out of his hand, flipping him the bird, and walking away shouldn't be a response to either of those two.

So, now the cops can beat arse because someone "had it coming"?

Idiot.

I dont think anyone is saying this, you are just being dramatic. What the cop did was wrong, I agree, HOWEVER, if the kid had followed social norms and wasn't an asshat (yes, that is an assumption based off of the officers reaction) to the officer/s there is a 95% probability the situation dissipates.

We 10000% know it doesn't matter. In THAT situation on THAT night the cop is in full uniform and had a duty to be able to handle himself appropriately. He did not. Plain and simple. There is no grey area here if the only thing that went on was the kid talking shite and filming them. All those cops did was fuel the fire.

Now we're back to the "if she wasn't wearing that tight short skirt" argument. Christ..........

Another scenario is the kid could have thrown something at the Cop.

Nope. That would be illegal. The cop was mad enough to assault him so he would have arrested him if he had done anything illegal.

He would have brought him around the corner and fed him a Harry Lee special. This tells me that the kid, while probably an a-hole, did not break the law.

I bet after he gets that fat payday, he does it all the time, forever. A second fat payday is not just going to make itself happen. He needs to help it get here.

I agree. I doubt the kid broke the law. I just think he verbally crossed a line that drove that cop into the red on his tac. The question is, is that line too short?

If trained properly, words from an idiot who doesn't know you should not bother you. Never lose control over verbiage. An officer should not even engage a negitive conversation on a parade route. Lack of training. Period!

I agree, but as a cop you have to understand that you are going to hear some shite you probably don't want to hear. At the end of the day, you have to remain professional and can't lash out the way he did.

And I will again ask you, what is the problem with doing this?

Nothing is wrong with it. Just answer my question:
What could a kid say to a cop that justifies the action of the first cop?

Why do I need to provide some hypothetical to satisfy you?

Why can't we just wait for the actual details to come out?

This is ridiculous. Like the kid in DC that got slammed with a selective video of a native banging a drum in his face.

This is all speculation without the full story, and, the OT hates Jefferson Prish.

Y’all OT badasses have become pussies. Big deal, he got pulled down and put in his place for being a little shite. Maybe if this shite happened more often we wouldn’t have to look at SJW threads all damn day everyday on the OT. Downvote to death dgaf. Nobody knows what happened there, but I can tell you he was being a dick trying to initiate a reaction with of course a camera behind him videoing and he got it. Damn y’all are soft asf.

I think the reality is that it isn't a reluctance to deal in the hypothetical but the lack of any possible hypothetical to make the first cops actions legal. One person tried with the video of the cops kid getting beat up but that isn't a legal defense. It could lead to jury nullification. There is the doctrine of "fighting words" but those still aren't a defense to an assault and battery.

The first cop committed a crime, some will overlook that and nullify the law.

Good cops can avoid acting like the first cop here. Cops like the first cop make policing harder. Some people are OK with cops, prosecutors and judges crossing the line for what they see as the greater good, I understand that sentiment but I was simply raised differently. It doesn't matter if you were in a home run race with Bonds, Giambi and Palmeiro using PEDs is still wrong.
