Funny you mention this.....
My fishing partner has a brand new Dodge. When backing the boat down the ramp in the morning, it's courteous to turn the headlights off so you don't blind the other guys backing down. Well, I can't get the %&$# lights to turn off. I ask him about it and he has to Google it then spend 30 mins scrolling through the control screen trying to figure it out.
I bought an '86 Chevy Suburban for this very reason. Still has the old push button radio in it.

Wish casting along with some truth. They don't want people buying new cars and they want to stop making new cars by causing demand destruction.

I drove a 2023 Corolla rental for a week recently, and I thought it was a great car. The Apple system was completely hands-off. I was very surprised. And the gas mileage was great.
Honestly, most people would be happier with something like a Corolla than a super-sized SUV. Easier to get in and out of, drive, park, commute. Cheaper to buy, cheaper to own.
Obviously, there are people that need the capacity of a larger vehicle, but most people don't need it. It ends up just collecting junk and being an overall worse experience to the owner.

It also had the knobs and whatnot for the hvac, volume, etc. Once my RAV dies, I'll probably get a Corolla.

The govt pushing ridiculous fuel economy standards is ruining vehicles
1. Having to create over the top aerodynamic designs leads to ugliness
2. Using cheaper lighter materials to reduce weight leads to unreliability

would be curious to know how many people would rather a cheaper vehicle without all the current technology features vs how many people would prefer to not have a cheaper vehicle in order to have all the current features.
I remember in the 90s we used base model Chevy W/T 4x4 single cabs on the farm. They used the same suspension and engine and such as a fully loaded 4 door. They lasted just as long, just weren’t as comfortable and no frills.
That’s not the case today. The base models don’t last, the suspension is light and cheap and the components inside are entirely lesser quality. Engines will be weaker and have plastic intake manifolds instead of aluminum or cast iron. None of it holds up on a farm. You have to buy a 2500 now to get the endurance and quality we used to get out of a 1500

I bet you’ll find a correlation in the decrease in satisfaction with the increase in price.
Maybe this little downturn in the economy that is expected will increase supply and get things within some kind of reason.
I looked on CarGurus a few days ago and noticed one dealer had a Toyota Tundra Capstone priced 15,000 over what the Toyota website said you could build one on the website for.
I mean… who are the imbeciles who are walking in and paying 15,000 over MSRP for a half ton truck??
I would bet that you could not walk into one of these dealers and order a vehicle that you want and pay MSRP. I bet they wouldn’t do it for MSRP.

Honestly probably the best trucks ever made. They were indestructible and a perfect combo of reliability and modern comfort along with the capability of lasting hundreds of thousands of miles
We had one for 20 years on the farm that we sold with 600k farm miles and still had the original engine and trans

I have a '22 Lexus and my A/C & radio knobs are still there under the touchscreen. Can also adjust volume and jump stations (or songs on playlist) from the back of the steering wheel.
Did see a video awhile back (maybe Ford) where you had to push a button to put the center console down in the back, then push another button to get the display screen to show, then scroll through the display screen to get to the cup holder. And once all that was done, it blocked the rear vents

It's not just touch screen. The engines have computers running them, dropping them to 4 cylinders and they don't last as long. Nothing today lasts as long as it used to.

I saw one the other day in my area that was white and still had a perfect body. I pointed it out to my wife like I had seen a racecar and I must've stared at it for about 25-30 seconds, it was so beautiful.

I love new technology, but not in cars. Most of it is completely unnecessary and just another thing you have to worry about breaking. I feel like 2017-2018 is the furthest I want my car technology to go.

its all about new regulations. which leads to cutting costs elsewhere.
And regulations means more electronics, which in turn means more shite that can break and isn't easily fixed by a DIYer.

Completely agree! My biggest complaint with new vehicles. Almost getting into a wreck trying to adjust the A/C

You have to click through menus to adjust the AC while driving, but God forbid you try and change the time on the clock while sitting at a red light because your vehicle isn't in park.

I love small turbo motors, in a passenger conveyance. Drag racing cured me of the desire for a big V8. Torque breaks stuff.
CVTs are an abomination.
