Yeah a bunch. I know of a few augmented reality startups and a blockchain startup in the works as well.

That is interesting to me. I'm definitely not in the background of that, but have talked to several people who basically work with startups from their home. Don't know if NOLA has a low cost of living that promotes independent entrepreneurs in that way.

There is a vacant automobile plant sitting in Louisiana that can't be marketed to real car companies because of some deal with Elio?
Yes, Land Rover wanted to use the old Shreveport GM plant, but Elio nixed it.
Smart move for Louisiana. Better the allure of fantasy than the reality of a few thousand jobs.

A bunch of my friends are developers in Nola that work from home now. Notable ones they work for are GitHub, Stripe, Shopify and InVision. I keep telling them to move

If Ello has the lease or right of refusal, the state can’t do much.

I've pretty much just come to the conclusion that this board loves to shite on most of Louisiana, especially New Orleans.
A lot of people on here used to live here and want to feel good about their decision to leave. So, they bash Louisiana.

You mean the no office environment

A newly formed firm that has acquired parts of the Hewlett-Packard technology company will open a New Orleans hub and provide about 2,000 new tech jobs, according to a source with knowledge of the announcement.
The source confirmed the company as Virginia-based DXC Technology, which describes itself as an "end-to-end IT services company." The company formed earlier this year as the result of a merger of CSC and the Enterprise Services business of Hewlett Packard Enterprises. The company says it serves nearly 6,000 private and public sector clients in 70 countries and employs 155,000 people.
They can tell the state anything and get all the incentives in the world and never pay them back if they don't perform simply by closing up shop.
If you or I do something with LED they want personal guarantees.
Screw the incentives.

It's broad, and transformative in approach not only in tactics but also structure, particularly as it relates to the strategic execution with higher education partners.
This sounds a lot like what we heard from IBM....now we see where that is.
ETA And CGI in Lafayette....at least maybe they are building some infrastructure for ULL.

Good win for NOLA and Louisiana.

If you think this company was created for this incentive you're Way way off.
It's a $25B company with 170k employees (plus a ton of contractors)
These 2000 jobs are a tiny part of their overall strategy.
Its a big deal to Louisiana, not to DXC.

It is a big company. It is also a start up---inheriting business HP abandoned.
We shall see.
We shall see.

It is not a startup, it's a merger of 2 established multi-billion dollar global companies. It is a dinosaur in the industry with a new name.
Posted on 11/13/17 at 1:29 pm to lilsnappa
That is correct. Start up would not be the right term.
It is a new company combining the businesses a very large company elected to exit.

I bet they've been promised a fat exclusivity contract for state IT requisitions...

The state doesn't incentivize their own expenses.
