I wonder where this will be. Moldy crescent city tower?

My landlord in New Orleans who owns multiple rental properties said someone bought that building and is renovating it out. I realize that's not hard evidence but I don't know why he'd outright lie about something like that.

Yeah that's like saying when Time Warner split off Time Warner Cable... that Time Warner Cable was a startup

Can anyone provide some perspective on this? Is it really one of the most significant economic development announcements in Louisiana ever?

Here is what is funny about this thread:

1) Most of the people complaining are not from the NOLA area... many are not even in Louisiana

2) If they bring in 2,000 dot Indians here and pay them 35K a year.. that's still 2,000 people living here, shopping at local stores, paying rent, paying sales tax, paying state income tax, etc. Reality is this is going to grow over time.

3) State will make an investment in schools.

This isn't as transient as film jobs... but it's also not as sticky as plant jobs. Hopefully the state learned from past incentive failures and are forcing the company to have some more skin in the game.

We have never had an LED incentive package for 2,000 jobs. So in terms of "economic development" i.e. the work done by such people who try to get businesses to locate here... yes... it's high on the list.

I'm interested in seeing how many people they are going to transfer here. 2,000 jobs for a company with 170,000 of them means this is a piss-ant office for them.

Garrett throwing a little shade on JBE taking credit for this.

You think the money they return in stores, sales tax, etc. will equal or exceed the amount the state is putting up to bring the company here in the first place?

Right, and that's basically telling recent graduates in who studied tech in school and people like me who have a ton of experience in IT a big frick you because this company doesn't want to pay market wages. Then people start bitching about the brain drain in the state and why we can't seem to keep or attract educated people to Louisiana so more high tech companies could potentially come here without our state giving up taxpayer money to do so.

H1B visas are abused, period.

Yeah, I don't believe that for a second.

The 2,000 jobs are expected to be in place by 2024, with a total payroll of more than $130 million.

To land the deal, the state offered a package of incentives estimated at about $120 million. That includes almost $19 million in performance-based grants doled out over time, about $25 million that would go to local universities to cover workforce training, and payroll rebate of $57 million over 10 years.
Woof.

That's funny. They're claiming the average salary will be 63k.

Which is a high estimate, we all know. Which is extremely low for an average "tech" job, which we all know this really isn't.

They can say whatever they want. They're going to claim they can't find talent because of some bullshite job requirements that nobody would have. For example, 10 years experience managing Windows Server 2016, not just Windows Server, the latest version that's only been on the market for a fricking year. When they can't find the unicorn they're looking for, they bring in some guy they can pay 30%-50% less than what the market demands.

It's an IT outsourcing company like Infosys and Wipro. Sure, there will be a few local hires but a majority will be H1B visas.

If they think a Windows admin is only worth 60k, then it's much worse than that.

Meh, that's just an example of a job requirement I've actually seen at one time. A hiring company wanted several years experience on a software product that had only been on the market for a year.
