This isn't movies. It isn't IBM.

It isn't onshoring, BPO relocation, nearshoring, or H1B-related.

It's broad, and transformative in approach not only in tactics but also structure, particularly as it relates to the strategic execution with higher education partners.

It's a tremendous win for LA.

There have been rumors of a new container terminal in the works but I doubt Avondale is the spot for that

They missed that chance when they didn't change the Huey P.

Only container ships going under that now are just going to be little rinky dink ships that have a low TEU count. I don't even think it would be worth it

Are they going to move India to the work or actually develop local talent?

Louisiana desperately needs the latter.

How are you going to develop local talent without doing the former?

And for the record, I do not believe this will be made up if temporary H1Bs (there will have to be some portion, sure). It's 2000 workers over the next 5-7 years.

If this works out, I can envision the same population of workers that go to vo-tech to become plant workers now having the option to train to work in certain technology fields..in a white collar environment.

It's a positive for Louisiana.

They exited financial services in 2015 but kept GE Tech jobs in NOLA. And last I checked the tech apprentice program with the Nola schools was still going.

There are plenty of GE folks working in my building in the CBD in New Orleans. I think they rent a couple of floors here.

The rumors have it way further down river than that anyway. Like South Plaq

Any idea what business/industry verticals may be coming in? I wonder if they may be getting completely out of Plano (where the HP-ES business was based).

There is a vacant automobile plant sitting in Louisiana that can't be marketed to real car companies because of some deal with Elio?
Yes, Land Rover wanted to use the old Shreveport GM plant, but Elio nixed it.

Not to mention that Avondale's biggest dry dock was towed out a few months ago and sent to the Canary Islands.

The company's website outlines their verticals; I think a couple of these will become very compelling w the NOLA location (healthcare in particular). More interesting will be the "transformation" methodology as it relates to delivery and deployment. The cross-functional capability development in cyber, blockchain, AI/MLDL, and Big Data will have more impact on talent than the verticals, IMO.

So you're telling me you have no idea what areas of the company are being transitioned to nola. Got it.

Could have just said that.

Apparently a lot of them are in on some startups in their spare time.

Maybe one of those catch on.
