It’s pretty fricked up how accessible personal info is online

The other day I just wanted to see what would pop up it if I searched my name. Most of it was random results with no specific relation to me, just my name. But, then I found one link with my full name, DoB, current phone number, where I work, coworkers names, my current address, previous addresses with exact dates when I lived there, like 20 direct and indirect family members, etc. all accessible with just a click. The website is FastPeopleSearch. They do have an opt out feature, which I did, but it still pisses me off how so much personal info of mine was just one simple google search away. How is that legal? Giving free access to that much personal info is fricking insane.

Is there a way to flood that with bogus information? Like have it say you live in Nashville when you really live in Dallas, or create fictional relatives and associates?

Just imagine posting on message boards when people know your true identity.

If you're registered to vote and have a driver's license, it's all public domain, at least that was how it was explained to me. I agree it shouldn't be allowed to be plastered all over the internet, there are too many crazy people out there.

i'm pretty sure indeed, zip recruiter, and other job seeking sites are selling off massive amounts of data. To take it a step further and put on the tin foil hat, there are fake job postings out there just to get people to apply and take their data.

Luckily my name is common. Makes it tough to sift through

The website is FastPeopleSearch.

You can sign up for DeleteMe to have yourself continually scrubbed from all of these sites. There's dozens of them. And it would be nearly a full time job to do the work personally that they require to be scrubbed.

I opted out of one of those a couple years ago when a similar thread was started here. I opted my family members out, too. I assume there are multiple such sites, though. Yes, it is fricked up.

I imagine there are companies that'll scrub it for you.
WSJ just did a 2 part series about how to DIY.
Companies scrub all the time...
Do a search on the FedEx Odometer Rollback fraud case...

Also, when searching a name, this site pops up with that person’s political party affiliation.

1. It's not your data, like it is in the EU. You willfully surrendered it through the hundreds of terms of service you scrolled through and clicked OK on in order to install an app or use a service like LinkedIn, Glassdoor, etc. Agree to have your home listed on MLS through a broker, and all of a sudden you start getting mailers and ads for movers, home mortgages, etc? This is why.
There are also public records that you usually can't do anything about. Some closing details in Texas can be protected if you check the right box, but otherwise it's public records. You want to know how much your neighbor paid, to the dollar in property taxes? It's on a county website.
2. There are hundreds, if not thousands of data brokers that have the same or similar data. You can use a service like Delete Me to crawl and send deletion requests to many of these. You pay for the year, and you get a monthly status report on deletion.
3. You can request to delete your data from these brokers, but there's one place you cannot effectively delete your information from, and that's the credit bureaus. They own your consumer profile, and sell bits and slices of it every chance they get. Oh, maybe "anonymized," but it's been repeatedly proven how you can combine a zip code (or similar) with first and last initials with some unexpected other data and ID the singular person to a 90%+ degree of certainty.

Sometimes it would even list your employer or your occupation.

I have gotten emails, with a picture of my house attached, saying they have my browsing history and hacked my camera. They claim I was doing nasty things to vile porn and have video. LOL.
I deleted. It is amazing what you can find if you know how to search.
