Every week another story like this comes out where no one is doing their damn job. The level of incompetence among city leaders is beyond comprehension.

You cannot blame ANYONE for wanting to leave New Orleans for good.

Not uncommon for cities with third-world governance.

The contractor doing the work is always legally liable.

It was standard to paper clip at least $20 bill to the back of the permit, depending on what is being permitted. City inspectors were certified master at the discipline making $20 an hour when they could have been making $50 an hour, 20 years ago. Tips were "appreciated"

I just read something that said Cantrell has not held one meeting with her public works director, head of safety and permits, city attorney, or sanitation director yet this year.

You can just about guarantee that some of the Uptown elite are making bank behind the scenes regardless of their registered political party and regardless of who is mayor.

the only thing worse than living in New Orleans would be living in Baton Rouge

When Hurricane Allison flooded parts of Houston in 2001, permit requirements were lifted for reconnection of utilities because the contractor was liable for any faulty work already.

I sure wish that had been done in NOLA after Katrina

“And it says here in the second bullet point, those third-party inspectors who are being paid, presumably handsomely, and more than people inside City Hall, are not submitting reports for nearly half of the inspections that are being done. You can’t do work in a way and have it be reliable when you have half of the inspections just not being reported.”

That's because it's a massive scam/grift on the backs of the taxpayer. And one of many, many examples why less government is a good thing.

A Council member told me in person that Latoya, the people that work for Latoya, and the people that work for those people are never, ever there.

The CC has had to take over executive duties which they have no power to do

This is far from a new issue. My sister opened a shop on Royal St. 2 years before Katrina. The second day the shop was opened, a NOPD Sargent entered the shop & approached my sister, hand out. First words were" I am here to keep you from having a brick thrown through your window tonite". My sister, no newbie to the ways of the City, just asked him how much. An exchange of $25 took place...every other month.
