My wife likes to plan everything out but to me vacations are supposed to be fun and there’s nothing fun about only getting 4 hours of sleep

Time for a divorce. You’re clearly not compatible. Think about all the money you would save.

Depends on where you’re going

For the most part the answer is a light itenerary that allows for chill days while still planning on seeing the stuff you want to see or activities you want to do.

My wife is the same way. I’m more of a wing it guy but she wants everything planned out. We’re pretty well travelled so I guess we make it work.

Posting this from Africa on one of the “chill days” btw

We like going into a vacation with just a simple list of places to go and places to eat and then adjust on the fly. Anything else is stressful.

We plan a little, but not too rigid unless we have to schedule something at a set time

4 hours of sleep?

You can easily get a normal night of rest and still have a well planned daily schedule that starts at 8am.

Itinerary of some kind

frick traveling hours, or flying somewhere, paying for hotel, VRBO, Condo, only to see everyone staring at their phones for hours. We can do that at home.

Itinerary doesnt have to mean "plan everything out"

I think all trips are better with some itinerary and outline of what will be when but that doesn't mean no flexibility. Some trips do better with more planning, some do better with less but all do better with some.

She chose to be married to you; I’d rather sleep too than to have be around her.

You will note that I specifically did not request pics.

Schedules are life’s biggest infections. I’d rather flip a coin.

Absolutely not.

I hate planning. I want to explore and wander. I don't want guided tours, I don't want to be somewhere, on vacation, at a set time. Give me the ease of just being relaxed. And, you will discover all of those "off the map" places, with fun locals.

We have a rough idea of what we want to do. But the best part of traveling is exploring stuff when you get there

I've done many international trips where I booked the airbnb while on the flight overseas

Some people like to do the same thing on ‘vacation’ that they do at home just in a different location (drink, relax, be lazy, unproductive and uneducated)

Some more mature people like to explore more (museums, tours, hikes, learn something new, etc).

You probably should’ve had these conversations before getting married.

I felt this way when the kids were younger. Truth is, they don't care about what you care about. Taking my son and his friends on their senior trip next month. I asked what they wanted me to plan for them. They said they'd figure it out when they got there. You know what, let em do it. They're all 18. Me and the wife will do what we want to do.

All about itineraries, but they need to be flexible.

Combination of both depending on the location. Usually do dinner reservations months in advance

Aside from activities that require scheduling, I just take it as it comes.
