Well, a friend of mine named Steve Goodman wrote that post, and he told me it was the perfect country and western funeral

If you don't want to watch the whole thing the graveside service starts at 4:30. I wonder if that priest knew what he was getting into?

I respect his commitment. The first FIVE failed...let's give it another shot.

TBF he was apparently married to several of them at the same time.

Man, I thought he died years ago after he wrote the raven.

I still liked his poem about the raven, though.

An attorney I used to be acquainted with loved to tell about his encounter with David Allen Coe. He was hired for a collections case against him. Said DAC was a huge a-hole to deal with and claimed to be broke and couldn't pay the judgment. He was getting ready for work one and his secretary called him to say that one of DAC's song just hit the top ten list. He said he took off to the ASCAP office with the judgment to place a lien against the proceeds. He swears that DAC called him being as nice as pie trying to get him to remove it, and he told him to F- off just like DAC had told him so many times.
No idea if it's true, but I do know he was involved in a lot of high dollar collection cases.

Did she ever even call him by his name?
Posted on 7/18/26 at 6:49 pm to Jim Rockford
Does anyone else find it ironic that everyone refers to him by DAC and not call him by his name?

John Prine and Steve Goodman did not like him, but they sure made a ton of $$$$ off his cover of their song.

Seems to me like they finally read DAC’s will!

ATTENTION ALL MUSICIANS, VENUES, AND BUSINESS ASSOCIATES OF DAVID ALLAN COE:
Priority court judgments for long-overdue, unpaid family and child support have already been officially filed by us against our father’s estate. While some people have attacked us for holding him accountable to the family obligations he walked away from during his life, our priority is transparency and family honor. We want to ensure that everyone he owed money to has the exact same opportunity to be made whole.
If you are a booking agent, band member, promoter, or business partner who is owed money, you must file a claim right now to protect your financial interests before the estate is entirely settled.
Here is the exact information you need to file:
Court Jurisdiction: Hamilton County Probate Court (Cincinnati, Ohio)
Official Case Number: 2026002340
Appointed Executor: His widow, Kimberly Hastings Coe
Strict Deadline: October 29, 2026
Under Ohio law, we have no legal authority over his estate and cannot pay any debts or invoices directly. Your rights can only be protected by filing a formal, written claim directly with the court clerk. Any claims submitted after the October deadline are legally barred forever.
To review court filing instructions or check available documents, you can access the portal directly on the Hamilton County Probate Court Estate Administration Forms Page.
Thank you for helping us stand for what is right and ensuring people get what is legally due to them.

I got arrested at a DAC show in Ruston LA back in 01-02ish. Good times.
My 16 yr ok arse should've been arrested at Texas Club when he threw his 8th tanq and tonic of the night at DAC from 30 feet away when his coked out arse kicked out a foot light, and dog cussed his band as he stormed off stage 30 seconds into his first song of the night.
Quite possibility the stupidest thing I have ever done. At 16 anyway.

Well, she could’ve told her stepmom no. Or she could’ve just done whatever she wanted. But she let that woman control her. That’s on her.

It’s no wonder that none of his celebrity friends or peers even showed up to honor him. They likely knew exactly what kind of circus this was going to be.
Now the widow sounds like a bitch and they should have put her in her place, but this isn’t why his celebrity friends didn’t show.
A lot of the outlaw country guys like Hank jr, Willie, and ones that are long gone like Merle and Waylon didn’t really like DAC. DAC had a tendency to steal material and claim he wrote songs for others that he didn’t write.
There was a weird dynamic where either DAC lied a lot, or his friends used him privately for material and distanced themselves publicly because DAC was too rough or too outlaw. Who knows the truth. But in today’s world any celebrity isn’t going to risk the bad PR of attending DAC’s funeral. I love some DAC too, but that’s just the reality.
