It bothers me seeing states like Georgia, Texas, and NC just leaving Louisiana in the dust

Those state governments have made regions of these states highly attractive. Atlanta, NC research triangle, and most major Texas cities are seeing huge growth from both foreign immigrants and from places like California and the north

If those states can lay the foundation for a future of tech and finance, why can’t Louisiana.

I want to see a flourishing 21st century economy in Nola. I want to see wealthy suburbs based around tech and finance firms in Lafayette and lake Charles and BR.

Louisiana has the potential to be the Silicon Valley of the swamp.

ETA: as someone below said, the state throws a celebration as if Amazon is relocating here when a fricking fruit pie factory reopens

Buc-ee’s wouldn’t even open a shop in Louisiana, but tech and finance firms are going to?

What are you doing to change it since it bothers you so much? Complaining on a message board? That always works wonders to change things.

Culture matters. I’ve lived in two of the three states listed as well as Louisiana and the level of apathy in Louisiana trounces those.

We need to aim for Alabama and Tennessee level first

Stop giving incentives and cutbacks to chemical plants

Big oil and plants will not leave

Use that money to attract manufactoring and tech businesses

Improve traffic infrastructure.

Take pride in the appearance of the city. Better green spaces, drainage/canals, pick up the garabge, propose monument sign ordinances.

Limit welfare handouts.

Would require the population to give a shite. They don’t.

Because Louisiana citizens are not good enough. This board likes to blame black peop...ahem, “culcha,” but the truth is white, black, brown, purple people from Louisiana suck at creating a statewide culture for economic growth and general prosperity.

It’s not race, political ideology, lack of resources or anything else, it’s that Louisiana people in general prefer to organize their society with plenty of graft and corruption. This coupled with the Alabama and Mississippi sickness of being poor and just not giving a shite are a toxic combination.

You guys throw a good party and make good food though. So it’s not all bad.

Because every time money comes along in the state and sniff around, local and state government lines up for their cut of the action they feel owed.

LA is going to have lots of fun when the oil spigot start to be massively cut off in the next 30-50 years given the fact that they do the same things politically they have been for the past 100 years.

Texas used to be in the same mode, but after the big oil pull back in the 80s they made massive strides to diversify their economy.

The boom you are seeing now is riding the back of that act.

Meanwhile LA does a shitty job of attracting businesses to their state, does a shitty job of trying to make their place an attractive place to live, and takes what businesses they do have for granted and feel like they can tax them with no re processions to have more play money to be pissed on pet projects instead of community infrastructure.

If Huey Long came back from the dead, he'd be like "Holy shite? Yall are still squeezing the oil thing for your real only industry here? Don't you think we should have diversified by now?"

What you talking about? I just heard that through the exhaustive efforts of our state and local government, we were finally able to fund an economic development grant sufficient to permit the reopening of Hubig's Pies.

No offense to the guys at Hubig's, but when the state puts its emphasis on reopening a place making fried fruit pies, there's probably not many resources left over for laying "the foundation for a future of tech and finance..."

How many jobs will Haydel terminate because of the sweetheart deal they gave Hubigs because there isn’t a demand to satisfy two fried pie companies

Huntsville, AL is the Silicon Valley of the South. Huge areas of development there especially around cyber security and advanced manufacturing

The people in Louisiana are among the most insecure I’ve ever met. If someone from another state that actually has its shite together moved to Louisiana and presents options for change, the mindset is “frick you, you liberal yankee. We’re good. Cajun Navy, wooh. Don’t need to change for nobody, never”

That’s the problem. There’s things this state can do to improve but many have pointed out the other problems too.
