I imagine they’re attacking US missile defense batteries in Baghdad that helping to intercept Iranian missiles but they’re probably colocated so who knows

Ok, that was part two of my question. How large are these Iranian missiles and after being dismantled mid flight by Iron Dome how much damage can they still do?

It would make zero sense for Iran to directly attack US interests such as our Embassy in Baghdad. I’m not saying they wouldn’t, but it would make Irans situation much worse than it already is.

They aren’t small and it’s not like they all vaporize upon destruction. I imagine a 6” square chunk of steel moving at 100+ mph is going to frick up civilian homes and is certainly lethal

This should have been expected. Iran will try to escalate. They're in an existential war. In widening the conflict they hope to get some third party to reign in Israel or failing that burn the rest of the world down along with themselves.
I'm not taking Iran's side here, but you have to understand how they think in order to predict what they'll do.

They can still do a decent amount of damage, especially if intercepted over heavily populated areas. That said, at least a couple of these look like full strikes.

From Iran's point of view it can't get any worse. Israel has stated its goal is to dismantle the Islamic regime. If Iran can't stop them, and so far it looks like it can't, the only other option is try to escalate and see where the cards fall.

Doesn't make much sense to go and pull the US into this considering they're having their own problems with Israel. If they're banking entirely on getting China or Russia that's not a smart gamble

Can't beat Israel 1:1. Maybe have a chance if they pull the US in and Russia and China back Iran.
