He didn't have the means to lay seige to Rome. If he had taken the city, he didn't have enough men to hold it.

Yes it is, Germany was never winning that war, Soviet Union or not.

Again, define winning. Without the Eastern Front I'm not sure how you think the United States is waltzing into some assured victory in Europe unless you are just banking on making the "we had the atomic bombs first" argument.

Whoever gets to Mars first.

Sadly.

If Germany didn't screw up the battle of Britain and, like you said, dunkirk than Germany probably wins and keeps us out of the European war altogether

My statement was only for when we were committed to a side and were actively participating in the fight and in a state of total war

It’s a pretty valid one. We’d absolutely use those bombs on Berlin and Munich over Hiroshima and Nagasaki.

Battle of Britain as well (great job trusting Goering on that), but Dunkirk is the simplest answer and the easiest moment where Germany could have won the Western Front. I’m thoroughly convinced that future generations will look at the Dunkirk Evacuation like we do the Battle of Thermopylae. Both were the day Western Civilization was saved.

You'll have people on here shortly trying to convince you that the Soviet Union/Russia did most of the heavy fighting

Well, they did. We helped them swing the momentum in their favor by supplying them for sure. But, they used their best and most plentiful asset to stop the Germans from rolling over the whole country. That asset they had was men. Millions of men.

Americans, in any time period, wouldn't be able to stomach the number of casualties that the Soviets had to endure.

Dropping one on Munich would be a GD shame.

Not much different than what happened to Dresden really. One bomb versus thousands with the same end result.

We had two atomic bombs in August of 1945. Now remove the USSR from WWII. Tell me how you ensure those bombs are delivered on those cities. You can't. You also still need land troops to occupy and hold Europe. Nuking two cities still doesn't achieve that.

If Hitler doesn’t invade and get stuck into winter, WW2 is completely different

If Hitler doesn’t declare war on the US, the US may not have gotten involved in Europe when they did or at all, then hitler may have beaten the Russians. I understand Germany had a pact with japan, but they also had a pact with Russia prior to invading. So breaking pacts wasn’t out of the realm of possibility.

There’s a big island near Germany. They were able to conduct air raids over Berlin throughout WWII. It’s call Britain. That’s how we get it over Berlin. Seriously, in 1940 they got intel that Russian ambassadors were there in 1940, and they bombed Berlin just to send a message. They certainly had the means to do so.

The evacuation of the BEF from Dunkirk was important but not fundamentally war winning at all. The British were not strategically defeated if it didn't happen. It also didn't ensure Britain's defense. I think Dunkirk is typically viewed by historians precisely as it should be.

Fighting the Civil War and building the transcontinental railroad was pretty impressive.

Any non-dictatorial nation probably wouldn’t be able to stomach the numbers of casualties that the Soviets did. However, we still win. We do what happened in WWI, blockade the frick out of Germany. We had the better Air Force, better Navy, better overall equipment, better economy, more manpower, and a nation that wasn’t so ideologically driven like Germany.

The British Empire ruling 25% of the entire planet is pretty damn impressive.

The North Vietnamese lived in straw huts and didn't have shoes, but they made the biggest super power on the planet pack up their jets and carriers and go home.

On par with the colonies running off the Brits in the American Revolution.
