You’re not gonna get a whole lotta love on here. Too many folks on the OT buy into the propaganda that teachers are altruistic and good at what they do

This. I saw some pretty epic Facebook battles last year when the nurses started stealing all the teachers social media brownie points.

Teachers are the most under-compensated labor in America. It’s no wonder they’re always bitching and fricking—seeking validation and reassurance.

Kudos to the nurses! I had to bring my wife (no pics) to the emergency room this morning at 4:30 AM . Chest pains, low blood pressure, dizzyness ,and problems breathing (asthema). The nurses were super professional and I was quite impressed. Since we were the only ones there we were able to basically have a conference with 3 doctors about my wife's problems (yes here in the Baton Rouge area) . All 3 were very caring and concerned and worked diligently to help my wife. I won't name the hospital but I was extremely pleased with the level of professionalism.

Like in every profession you will find bad actors, teachers included. I taught in the inner (ghetto) city schools here in Baton Rouge for 22 years . Each year got worse. The LEAP scores never went up , guess who got the blame, not the students. A majority of them never applied themselves, they would not retain anything from day to day. I finally came to the realization of " what the hell am I doing here ?" I now do heavy construction and I love it. Compared to teaching in inner city schools my present career is like a vacation with pay , I work more, I get paid more but I actually achieve a productive out come now. Until the parents take a real interest in their children's education nothing will improve.

I could endure most any job if I got of at 3:00 every day and got 4 months' vacation every year.

So now it’s 4 months off per year? Geez. Tell that to my district.

Teachers get off work at 3:00?

I do good if I get home at 5:00. Between coaching and band practices, I’m working about a dozen Saturdays a year, plus every football and home basketball game. Add in the fact that we have to start practice about 5 weeks before the first day of school.

Honestly, the only thing I have to bitch about is people who know nothing about my profession telling me how little I work.

I swear it's like most people don't know that teachers are only paid for the days they work. Yea teachers get summers off, but they aren't paid for it. The total amount is just divided by 12 so a check is put out every month. It's like bitching about a rotational worker only working 6 months of the year. Yea well they only get paid for what they work so what's the big deal?

As someone in education, sure there are some teachers who bitch about stuff, but it's no different than any other job. I got friends on Facebook who cut grass who are posting almost daily about looking for "real workers" who work hard and how they are "the last of a dying breed" and stupid shite like that. It's the person not the profession.

If liberalism equates to stupidity and most teachers are liberal then most teachers are stupid

Well, teachers are expected to do parent’s work most of the time every other year. And it sure wasn’t like this in Louisiana.

Average salary for a teacher is around 60k. If they worked the whole year, that would be about 80k, but they don't.

I’m not denying they had a difficult year, most professionals did to be honest, but teachers love the opportunity to remind us how hard their jobs are and to congratulate themselves.

To be fair, most teachers not only deal with shite pay/the beurocracy of school districts and admins/ having to supply the classroom out of their own pocket/ and now having to essentially parent your children on top of it.

They deserve it honestly. Praise, not the shite they go through.

Plus some of the most influential people on my life throughout the years were teachers.

That’s something you volunteer for. I can’t really lump in all my time consuming non-work activities/hobbies as an extension of how much time I spend “working”

I’m not telling any teacher how to do their job. I’m sure it probably has plenty of challenges, more than I am even aware of. But thats every job that’s ever existed. I’m simply observing the self-congratulatory nature of many teachers and how they clamor for validation.
