You think having to read their facebook post are bad, try working with them

This is true, but likely the same as any profession. I have a few colleagues that are such complainers/drama queens that I’d like to give them a forceful slap in the face every morning when they sign in. I also have many colleagues who keep their heads down and do their jobs. Guess which group is also pretty shitty teachers.

There are professional fields you could apply for. You could teach marketing, polymer chemistry, welding, anything you can think of.

Think about it. 180 days of work and you could be at the beach from Memorial Day to the end of summer. I don't know why we aren't all teachers?

But those 180 days!!!! The horror!! I wasn’t born with that special trait that allows people to teach

Me either. I wouldn't teach if they offered $100k and 4 months off. I can't stand being in the same damn room all day, I can't stand other people's kids for very long, and if you haven't been in a school cafeteria... omg, I am not sure how anyone maintains sanity.

I do not find the nurses themselves to be all that bad on a typical day although they can get a bit preachy

Nurses is a relatively new one that was magnified during Covid.

Help me understand why you voluntarily go on Facebook, read teachers patting themselves on the back, then log on here to complain about it?

First you don’t have to go on FB. Second, remove them from your friend list. Third, you’re just as big of a bitch for this post complaining about it.

Sir, this isn't a covid thread and for that we are thankful of the OP.

So what you’re saying is that one of the hardest aspects of being a teacher is all your hard work, dedication and “give a frick” is completely negated by the deaf ears it falls on. Well, I owned a gym that did summer fitness programs for teachers. I know how they feel. Lol

I say this with complete sincerity.

I hope you get over whatever it is you're going through.

Like i said, on a typical day. Covid was not typical for them, especially early on. I will cut them a little slack in spite of the fact that they played their cards too much eventually

Those nursing students though...meeeeh, dramatic, and lots of complaining. This one is timeless, no matter the circumstance

Law Students are a bit like this as well, in the sense that they have to let the world know what they know, a bit less complaining though

I'm convinced that if the state made the base teacher salary set at $100k/year with all of their pension, benefits, etc they'd STILL whine that it isn't enough because of all their expenses as if no other profession in this world has to supply their own tools and equipment.

If the base teacher salary was 100k a year they'd all be bitching because their competition would increase and they'd be excluded from the profession.

Listen, teachers might be underpaid for the effort, I don't know. What I do know is that they knew it when they set out to become a teacher. You demand to be treated/paid as professionals, when:

1) You can go to directional schools at fractions of the cost without prejudice to your career;
2) You don't have to pursue particularly rigorous/competitive coursework;
3) You don't have to achieve at a particularly high level in said coursework;
4) If you go to grad school, the above apply to that too (lesser schools, programs, competitiveness, cost).

Good teachers are underpaid

How many of those there are is up for debate

For real, if your school costs over 10k a semester you shouldn’t have an education program.

One of the best things about Southeastern - its the same certifications as the bigger schools in the state and about half the cost, plus it's totally kosher to wear LSU gear there with the rest of the commuters even though SLU is a pretty rad school itself.

Kind of niche but the one two punch of military member who turned into politician is pretty high on the insufferable factor.

Crenshaw. That woman who doesn’t have legs or whatever. No matter the side they’re on it’s a pretty high cringe factor.

But they do get 1 week off for Thanksgiving, 2 weeks off for Christmas, a week off for Easter, depending on where you live a week off for Mardi Gras, etc.

So if you want to nickel and dime the amount of weeks off in the summer, fine. But add in all those other weeks and it easily comes out to 3 months off a year.
