What I find funny is that on the rare occasion that I get on there and look at the notifications, many are recommendations to "congratulate" somebody on 12 years at Acme Manufacturing LLC.

Who the hell wants to be reminded of that?

It's also a good tool to see what someone looks like for a blind meeting where you have never met that individual before. I can't tell how many times I have been waiting on a new client in a lobby and pulled up their LinkedIn profile to see what they look like so I recognize them when they come to meet me.

There’s a ton of recruiters on there. I deleted mine a few years ago.

I’m also not in any kind of sales position which would be the people that need it for contacts

I use LinkedIn to connect with someone I need to every now and then. Otherwise, it's a bunch of people blowing each other in hopes of connecting for the grass is greener next job. I got where I can't stand it. Also, got tired of being contacted by junior recruiters who don't take the time to read what the frick I do and then reach out to me about a position that is completely entry level bullshite.

I primarily see two types of people.

LOOK AT ME IM AN INSPIRATION! Your life could be better if you were more like me. Look what I did. Go on, tell me how great It was in the comments. Remember affirmative comments show others your solidarity with this great thing I did and then you can be great also just by associating with me.

LOOK AT ME IM A COMMENDABLE SOCIAL ACTIVIST! I have lots of posts of affirmation but that’s all I’ve ever really contributed.

Recruiters are so lazy lately it seems

They just search key words and send the email. Probably automated but rarely is a position remotely a fit

LI is very helpful for me. Recruiters reach out consistently with opportunities I otherwise never would have known existed. The feed is worthless but I like tracking old classmates progression and the career opportunities.

Linkedn is useful when you are job searching, it is also a pretty neat way to keep up with old friends whom you may not talk to anymore.

I have literally never mare a status or respond to other folks posts or anything like that. I dont care that much at all.

It's not Facebook bad, although if you read some comments, people can't help but bitch about the way someone phrased something. Like all social media, it is "hey, look at my success and happiness" but with a suit on.

I don’t think it’s that bad. But I always crack up at the old dudes I’m “connected” with who like and share posts exclusively from 20-30 year old female sales reps who have no affiliation with their location or industry
