No. In grade school, I was always dragging my hand through whatever I wrote and getting pencil all over it.

I am left handed. From a writing for spective its terrible because yes, you push the pen across the page which means you are pushing your hand behind the pen through the fresh ink/pencil lead and it smudges everything you write.

Correct me if I’m wrong, but wouldn’t you only be dragging your hand through the fresh ink/lead if you’re doing that stupid hooked-hand grip that some lefties do?

If you gripped the pencil/pen in the way righties do, your hand should be clear of any fresh ink/lead while you’re writing.

Left handed people exist for one reason only. That reason is baseball.

You're wrong. I write normally, like this, and it still happens.

I’m a lefty. All my family are righties. Nobody told me that in 1st Grade my hand would get dark from having to drag it over what I had just written due to those big pencils.

As an adult, I will only use ballpoint pens. Rollerballs don’t always dry fast enough and can smear.

no, that doesn't work.

I use pens all the time, and I beg to differ. I use Zebra pens (ok, so they aren't super nice pens ), and never have an issue with ink stains on my hand.

In a left-to-right language, left-handers don't easily see handwriting errors as their hand covers them up. Same with right-handers in a right-to-left language.

Then again, we type nearly everything on a computer keyboard so...

Edit: wrong quote.

I don’t know. I know I always get ink on my hand when writing though.

Hand gets dirty and tends to smear the ink.

No, they do the "stupid" hooked-hand grip specifically to avoid smudging what they just wrote.

In 4th grade, I invented left handed 3 hole paper. I punched holes on the right side of the paper, as all loose leaf came customarily with holes along the left side of the page.

When I started a new page, I would write on the back of a sheet that was in a binder in traditional placement with holes along the left side of a new page. Once the page was completed, I would remove the page and place it into the binder with the new holes from the right side. This returned the page to appear as though it was a traditional piece of loose leaf paper.

Used this all the way through college. Can’t even count the number of teachers and professors that I had to explain why my paper had holes on both sides.
Man, it seems like less hassle to just stop being wrong-handed.

Growing up, I was taught at home to write with my hand below the pen to avoid the smear factor and ignore the teacher marking off because my letters weren’t slanted properly.

It was a pain to always try to position the paper to get the desired slant so I lost the style points most of the time.

Just my own observation, but there seem to be a lot of left handed dentists.

Yep, this is probably the biggest thing. When I write in cursive, everything leans to the left, because my hand is under the writing. It never looks like that aesthetically-pleasing right-lean you see, that fonts are made to resemble.

you say this, but a lot of left handed children end up becoming fairly ambidextrous in a lot a ways. I for one am almost completely a righty now minus writing.
