Marriage is about starting a family. Man and woman create life. One of my friends said he did not want to have kids because he said he was to selfish. He said he did not want to waste time on them or care for kids. Said he just wanted to worrry about himself and travel/drink. So I said a child does not deserve a chance at a life because you would rather travel and drink. He said yep. He should not have gotten married. Some people just have that mentality. You can't changed them nor should you. They will end being one of those people obsessed with there nieces and nephews at family events/special occasions and it will be awkward for everyone as they try to fill this strange void they have in their caring heart. They will end up dying alone or if they are lucky have their spouse at their bedside when death is near. Nobody will truly miss them except for their old spouse if their mind is right and aren't to busy hanging with your replacement. It truly is sad and depressing for these people. Nothing can replace the love a child has for his parents. Nothing.

Sounds mature. Ironically, that seems less selfish than the people who can't find happiness unless they bring a child into a world with 7.35 billion people. Seems selfish that some people believe that a child isn't special unless it came from their sex organs and shares their fricked up genes. But if you really want to see warped and selfish, look here:
quote:

Nothing can replace the love a child has for his parents.
^ People who can only be fulfilled by brainwashing a child to worship and take care of them. What sad, boring people.

Reading his/her father's posts, I already know your kid sucks and really wasn't needed on this planet. At least they have the excuse that they didn't ask to be born. Your only excuse for procreating is because you're scared scared to die alone. Pathetic.

I'm never the OT fake tough guy, but honest question, why would you sit through 20 minutes of that?

I give my friends a pretty long leash on just ignoring/letting stuff go, but I highly doubt I'd stick around for that. And if it were a spot I couldn't really leave, I'd just politely tell them I don't want to talk about it any more.

I'm not saying you're not lucky. What I'm saying is that I can help your wife feel the same way.

According to who? Not everyone shares your sensibilities, and your sensibilities aren't automatically correct.

LOL at thinking you're better than someone because they don't want kids. Worrying so much about what other people do is one of the biggest things that plague our society today.

Having someone to love and care for you as you age isnt the primary (you keep using this word) reason to have kids, but it's just something to think about.

It's one reason I see very often.

or if you get all serious and sullen and tell them you tried but miscarried. People shite all over themselves trying to apologize for inquiring.

of course you also get a lot of unwanted sympathy and pity, but at least they get off of the topic.

hmm... I think that's an interesting observation. Why do you think that's the case?

I know a couple without kids (in their mid-40's) and they're one of the nicest, most sincere couples I know. That could be the exception though.

Oh it has nothing to do with the people. It's just when you have kids, as they get older, all of your time is spent dealing with the kids. They get involved, they do things, etc. And so, you end up spending more time with other adults who have kids while you are at dance practice, soccer practice, school events, etc.

Your other friends who have kids, there are kids birthday parties, etc.

And several of my friends without kids LOVE my kids... so we try to involve them in stuff.

It's just... you only have so many hours in the day, and it takes a real effort to get your non-kid friends involved.

No. I'm never married and have no kids. I get it from both sides. So, I learned to make people really awkward so they'd leave me alone.

Not trying to throw a blanket statement out there, but it's kind of the stereotype. I know several who would "never" have kids, but eventually did and are great parents. The ones who are just hardcore, stick to their guns, never gonna have kids types come off as selfish/narcissistic. If you can't have your life bothered enough to have a kid (which many believe to be an amazing experience for yourself anyway), then you probably put yourself first in every situation possible, which makes you a miserable person to be around.

Obviously that's not true in every case.

It's easy to have a well rounded life enjoying your hobbies while still having kids.

I don't have kids, but I'd like to

I'm going only on my limited interactions with people who have passed through the "we don't want to have kids" stage and into the "we didn't have kids because of _______ stage."

They're usually not enjoyable company. Could I have just come across a bad batch of 5-10 couples in this category, and they don't reflect the majority? Sure.
