My hundred dollar seiko looks pretty slick.

A basic understanding of why there is a price difference takes less than an hour, caring about it may never come.
It is like the difference between a bespoke Holland & Holland O/U and a Remington 1100 some people will never see the value in the difference. Everyone is different.
It is also a hobby for some people as odd as it may sound. Most everyone has a hobby or a few, one of mine happens to be mechanical watches.

I have rocked a g-shock for years.
I get asked a question about why i don’t get something nicer.
I like being able to press my light button and seeing what time it is in the middle of the night in the dark

I wear a $50 Timex indiglo field watch for the same reason.

I dont have a watch over $350

I personally do not GAF about expensive watches but different strokes and junk I guess.
I have however been meaning to see about picking up a clear swatch watch like the one I had in high school

I haven’t worn a watch in years. But when I did, they were Fossil.

Same reason people drive a BMW when a Corolla will do. Some people just like luxurious items. Always have. People been losing their shite for gold and diamonds for thousands of years.

I’ve never worn a watch of any kind in my life

Watches for some people are a hobby just like cars or hunting or anything else. I have one Rolex right now but have owned several. Most I bought and sold for a decent profit immediately. The SS sport models are hard to get and I have 4 AD’s in my area that I like to go ‘fishing’ at and see if I can convince them to sell me one. Just a hobby nothing more. There are many watch brands better than Rolex so it isn’t really about a show of wealth. I just like the history of the brand.

Is it trashy not to GAF about expensive watches?
Not trashy at all. People will spend, collect and invest their money on what they want to spend, collect and invest their money on. My dad was obsessed with watches and firearms.
I inherited the things I was interested in and my uncle inherited what he was interested in.
Everyone needs a hobby. Everyone needs to collect something.

I understand it, but it's not my thing. If i had tons of money I could see myself buying one that will hold its value/appreciate.

Watches became obsolete with cellphones and fitness devices. Outside of family heirlooms, there is no point in them.

I get the analogy, but I think the sub $100 Fossil Minimalist with leather band watch looks way better than the highly expensive watches with metal links.
Guess it’s just personal preference.

Haven’t worn a watch since I got a cell phone. Probably early nineties.
Posted on 5/19/21 at 8:38 pm to Eli Goldfinger
Nope. My watch is on my phone, or at the bottom right of my computer screen.

I don't think it's trashy at all to think that. Like others have said, it's a hobby and a niche. I couldn't tell you the first thing about different cars or firearms, but there's someone on this forum right now who could go on for hours about it. We've all got our own things
