Lazy excuse if you ask me
Even if you cannot find free parking, the 3rd street garage charges a comparatively low fee to park at night.
You can cover all of the 3rd street attractions in less than 5 minutes of walking.
I look for any excuse NOT to go downtown. There is no attraction left as far as downtown BR goes. There is zero reason I would ever chose to go out there again when there are many other spots closer to home and away from the trash downtown has become.

Have you ever been downtown with a group of 20-something chicks? Those ADD broads would drag us up and down the street all night. This was what they used to do. They would start at Happy's, the Roux House, or Lucy's; then go to B&T's and dance for a while to the cover band. Then, when they'd get tired of that, they'd get some wine at a wine bar; then on to the "dance club" bar; then end the night at the patio of what is now Bengal Tap Room.
Nobody is saying they don't enjoy bar hopping. They're saying most people stay at each location long enough to at least drink one drink.
If not, maybe get a shot at each place? I employ this tactic when my friends are really itching to bounce around.

Yeah downtown just sucks now. Happy's running club is about the only reason I'd still go down there. Too many way better options closer to the house and adequate parking.

Like I said, the issue was also with people trying to bring their drinks with them outside to smoke.
A lot of people liked to walk up and down the street with daqs from Lucy's.

I think they just built one somewhere in Baton Rouge. Siegen maybe? I remember seeing one a few days ago

That place was a comedy of errors after the Curbside folks left the kitchen.

I keep forgetting that damn place. Been meaning to try it for a while now

Olive or Twist- great mixed drinks, small but great tap list, good food late and early and happy hour
Found it to be a bit overpriced. But I like whiskey and their selection is incredible which naturally results in a GD high bar tab.

Broome's revenge upon John Delgado takes its toll.

College kids have no reason to go downtown when they have bars set in stone as the go to places. Post college people have better places by perkins, the overpass, and college/govt. There is no reason to go downtown unless you live there.
Seems like residential plus essential retail need to be in an area before you can hope to have a sustainable leisure economy.
Has no one attempted to put more high end residential there? Seems like the gays alone would provide the demand.

That place is still packed to the rafters every night with neckbearded hipsters and try-hards in suspenders.

Yeah. If I had to guess, downtown St. George will be Perkins Rowe.

Or maybe a revamp of Industriplex Blvd

People keep saying downtown bars are full of LP and ghetto trash but that’s just not always true. Yeah maybe if you’re hanging out at city bar but places like Bengal Tap always have a really friendly fun crowd. Happys is usually fun with a good group of friends as well and sundays there for a Saints game are fun as frick.

Can Kip be elected again for a 3rd term? He’s only limited to two consecutive terms...not two terms, right?
He should be Lt Gov now.

The ghetto crowd stopped coming when 1913 shut down and the LP group hangs around at City Bar and B&Ts though the latter can still be fun.

Really? I went by there to eat at Elsie's about a month ago and the Radiobar sign was removed from the storefront. I guess they were updating...

I went to Stroubes awhile back (I think it was the weekend of blues fest, which got cancelled) and it must have been a lot of HS proms because there were several limos with HS kids dressed formal.. But it was poppin downtown. There was a line to get into Happy's. And that bar across from Happy's (the register?). It was packed.
I am sure during the Summer it's not as busy. A lot of LSU students go back home, there isn't really anything going on that brings people in, etc... Session just ended. But I am sure that's to be expected.

Kip May very well be a much better politician for BR but go back and look at the blanket statements made about north Baton Rouge, Democrats,
Have you been to NBR? I’m there every day. And as a whole it is a shithole, full of blight and decay and degeneracy. Are there hard working black folks there? Certainly. I don’t paint them all with the same brush and respect the hell out of working folks of any stripe, but I can’t stand freeloaders, black, white or brown.
The democrats of the broome and Edwards Ilk have irrefutably harmed Baton Rouge and Louisiana commerce and business, they are inept, corrupt and need to be run out just like Alleva was
