I wish he would.

Wrong.

It seems like the business class just got bamboozled by the current mayor, who is still in her first term

Broome received about 25% of the white vote, largely because she initially campaigned as a business-friendly moderate similar to Kip Holden. After she was elected, she took a hard left black lives matter turn and allied herself with resident race baiters Gary Chambers, Silky Slim, and C. Denise Marcelle. The top item on her agenda was to get rid of the sitting police chief, a white man, and replace him with a black man who subscribed to her vision of law enforcement "reform." Her administration also published a report that pretty much blamed "white privilege" for everything from traffic to the high crime rate. The writing was on the wall then.

The other candidates were all really shitty to boot

That's an understatement. Her main opponent wanted to practically de-fund downtown and mid-city in favor of spending more money in rural parts of the parish. Nobody in their right mind who lived within the Baton Rouge city limits would want that.

Broome came along at the worst possible time. Baton Rouge was still reeling from the Alton Sterling shooting debacle and the devastating flood.

Any chance Kip runs against her next fall? Apparently he will be eligible to run again. He would win going away...

I'd vote for Kip.

If no one decent (read: Kip Holden) runs, I might take a stab at it. I'll probably get massacred due to my zero name recognition and low melanin content, but if we're going to have nothing but clown candidates again (like f&%king Condon Uncensored), I may as well have fun with it and run a merciless tongue-in-cheek kamikaze campaign.

Ditto. Kip was the MAN. He was one of us. Easy to talk to and always at an LSU game cheering on the Tigers.

Kip genuinely cared for this city- and was willing to do what was necessary to improve Downtown BR. It's a shame seeing what he fought to improve being allowed to flounder....

I just saw people installing bike racks downtown for that Gotcha bike sharing program.

They are supposed to be ready by the end of the month. Located downtown, LSU, and Southern.

Broome has managed to undo much of what it took Holden years to accomplish. He was never popular with black voters because he refused to waste large amounts of money in NBR, knowing it's a virtual wasteland and the city would never recoup the return on its investment.
