Wow that's a damn shame. Magpie was a great place. Seems like we are reverting back to old downtown. There is still so much potential there, but they seem to be fixating on mid city right now.

making it more restrictive is only going to make it even more likely that people will choose elsewhere to hang out.

The parking, traffic, and walking situation is another barrier. You can Uber, but it’s a good little haul from south Baton Rouge and it’s cost prohibitive from the suburbs for most people. There’s just not a lot of incentive to go downtown.

So you can deal with the downtown headache or just go to the bulldog, duvic’s, uncle earls, or tiger land and not have nearly as much annoyance.

It’s because Kip isn’t Mayor anymore. Kip was revitalizing downtown. The current Mayor is retarded.

like the first week Broome's new Chief was in office he had officers down 3rd passing out open container tickets on weekend nights. Something Kip finally started allowing the night district some leniency on.

The only reason you fools hold Kip in such high regard is because he appeased white folks while shitting on the black folks where he hailed from.

Translation: he tried to revitalize, improve and restore the areas of the city with economic and social potential rather than dumping money into the cesspool of NBR and ending up with nothing long term whatsoever.

Are you suggesting that black people didn’t benefit from a revitalized and vibrant downtown? I saw plenty decent black folk having a good time there. You’d rather pander to the gravy train that destroys all they touch though

I have hope for Red Stick Social, but there's a lot of ghetto right there. Downtown was doing so well. fricking Broome just had to ruin it.

Yeah, the container laws get brought up a lot in downtown threads. Could certainly be a factor, but carrying a beer to walk to the next bar was never the reason I went downtown when I used to.

It was actually a big factor for a lot of my friends. None of the bars downtown are the best bar of their type in the city. There are better cover band bars, better cocktail lounges, better pool halls, better patios, better night clubs, better beer bars, etc. What made downtown fun was that you could go with a big group who all wanted different experiences, and get different experiences as you walked down the street. The value of a strip of bars you could bounce between with your drinks was better than the sum of its parts. You could hop from bar to bar trying to find the crowd and atmosphere you wanted that night. Once the bar-hopping was essentially outlawed via open-container laws, those peeps went back to Tigerland or the Perkins Overpass area and the culcha took over.

Buy out the negative element then. Or hope for an opportune fire to burn it out. It’s like cancer. Until you cut it out, it will spread and destroy all that surrounds it.

Gentrification is a must

I talked to a cop that used to patrol that area. Plenty of crime there with drugs and break-ins.

I’d hate to be one of the idiots who built a new apartment building or hotel in downtown. They’re about to lose their arse.

Red stick social is dropped down in the middle of a f&%king warzone. I hope it is a catalyst for change in that neighborhood, but I'm not holding my breath. At the moment, the restaurant seems exceptionally poorly run.

better pool halls,

Than Hound Dogs (RIP)?!? You shut your whore mouth!

But yeah I wasn’t necessarily questioning bar hopping. I did that too. I just usually was at each place long enough to not need to bring my drink out is all.

Is everything about race to you? People liked him because of his downtown revitalization, more transparency compared to Broome, didn’t spend millions on studies, and biggest of all he did not focus on identity politics.

I highly doubt this considering it came on the heels of her beating Delgado in the mayoral race

My buddy owns one of the places on 3rd street. He told me a group of bars asked BRPD to enforce the open container laws so that trashies wouldn't walk into a bar carrying a drink they bought from somewhere else.

How sweet it would be if all those stores moved to St. George.
