Yea, I talked to a cop working down there about it one time. Although he said he didn't care one way or another regarding all of third street, he recommended that I keep the open containers to within the stage area if I wanted to be safe.
I believe the 3rd St merchants actually asked BRPD enforce the container laws. The intention was to drive out freeloading trashies but the actual consequences made their situation much worse.

Has no idea former mayor Kip Holden is a black democrat.

What racism is in this thread? Because they’re taking swipes at Broome?

Never thought I'd look back fondly on kip Holden. Damn

Did they renovate their clientele?
The only time in my adult life that I have ever come close to getting into a barfight was with a City Bar bouncer. He kept walking by my girlfriend (future wife) grabbing her arse in the process. After she told me, the next time he got close, I positioned myself between her and him. He gets in my face and gangster snarls at me trying to act hard. I laughed at him and told him to stop being a miserable PoS that has to grab asses on the slick because he has no game.

Their rent must’ve been astronomical
A coffee and a club sandwhich would run about $20 after tip
Everyone's rent downtown is astronomical. It's hard to make money when a portion of your clientele is there merely for the free wifi.

never noticed it being enforced. The sell open containers
Happys doesn’t let you leave the bars with their drinks anymore. The BRPD threatened to shut them down if they see anyone walking out with a beer.
This was a year or two ago when it happened. Haven’t lived in BR for a year so maybe they brought it back.

Live After Five is no longer a safe family event. The group homes drop off people to attend and the homeless are taking over. I've gone to my last one, all the ingredients for something terrible to happen have arrived.

Stewie clearly has no clue that Kip Holden is black and everyone would much rather him be back in office

Not sure the exact rule but they sold alcohol at live@5. Are people really not going downtown because they can’t drink for that minute walk in between bars?
When you already offer so little attraction to drive to downtown as it is, making it more restrictive is only going to make it even more likely that people will choose elsewhere to hang out.

According to a friend that works in BR development, someone bought Magpie's lease as well as the lease to the space on top of the commerce building. He doesn't know who yet.

Yeah, the container laws get brought up a lot in downtown threads. Could certainly be a factor, but carrying a beer to walk to the next bar was never the reason I went downtown when I used to.
In fact, when they started enforcing the rules, I had no idea it was allowable to leave with them to begin with. That certainly wasn’t the driving factor bringing my down there.

Everyone I know regardless of political affiliation did not want Kip to go, including my tea party parents.

we used to go to all kinds of places downtown, around Perkins etc. I refuse to travel into BR anywhere now tbh unless just passing thru. Why would I want to spend any of my money in that city? I don't spend money in Jackson Mississippi either. The kind of people running both cities can go frick themselves. They wanted that bed made, now they can lay in it.

See, that’s the problem. They are so attached to race they think that if anyone criticizes a black politician/important person, it’s because of racism, and not due to them just being a shitty person for the job..
Best to just bop them on the nose with a rolled up newspaper and say “NO!”

The only reason you fools hold Kip in such high regard is because he appeased white folks while shitting on the black folks where he hailed from.

I highly doubt this considering it came on the heels of her beating Delgado in the mayoral race
