6th street as lame as it may be now, has been a model for what other college towns try to emulate.
meh. no one but trash goes to sixth and there isn't one noteworthy place except easy tiger on it.. I can't vouch for it 20 years ago. The Drag is the main college stretch and it's any indication of the state of austin, virtually every independent business except for hole in the wall has closed and been replaced with some crappy chain. How many of the popular bbq places were around 20 years ago? Very few. The music scene is obviously awesome and Austin's most identifiable aspect but like everything else the demographics have changed a lot.
Is it still good ? of course, but when i think of austin's identity you can look to the handful of places hanging around like Continental Club, Broken Spoke, Scholtz Garden, Cisco's, or neighborhoods like Burnet Road, Hyde Park. Those places no longer reflect what Austin's projected "culture" is. That said it's a fun place and really good place to live.

It's the home of Torchy's Tacos so it's good

Velvet Taco will probably get there sooner and its way better than Torchy's.

Velvet would do just fine too and you may be right with their late night model

Here are the Top 10 metropolitan areas, well 11 because I couldn’t leave out a city in Alabama. Even Alabama is getting better...
Huntsville is an absolutely fantastic place to live.

Meh if you're looking to print money near LSU, that Torchy's queso is liquid gold.
I'm not sure Velvet's menu plays as well in BR.

Abita, specific cuisine you’re looking for?
I recommend:
Emmer & Rye
I second Emmer & Rye. My wife and I went there for our anniversary and really loved it. Plus, it's right on Rainey if you are looking to go out for drinks before or after.

I agree, I'm not big on queso but Torchys is great.

You're saying LSU students aren't sophisticated enough to appreciate Kobe beef tacos, Ahi tuna tacos, Cuban pork tacos or Sausage Jambalaya tacos? The flavor profiles of Velvet is better than Torchys. I'm sure both would do well though.

Having moved from Baton Rouge to Austin, traffic is a breeze IMO. The outdoor activities are what makes this city great. 250+ parks, lots of hiking, creeks and a huge mountain biking scene. ETA: love the downvotes for listing things I like about a city.
I must be doing Austin wrong, I’ve been here 9 years and don’t do any of these things!

I couldn’t live in Austin. I’ve lived on the north shore of Lake Travis for 15 hrs . In the last year 200 or more homes have been built in my area and mostly Californians have bought them . You can tell by the new Porsche’s, Lamborghinis etc on the road . We’ll see how things go now that schools started.I may cash in and move to Marble Falls. It’s like Atlanta in the early 80s . Everywhere is growth and the city doesn’t know how to keep up.
Have you been through MF lately , traffic is a cluster and all they have is one freaking intersection!
They do have a Chic Fíla now , woohoooo!

If outdoor activities aren't your thing, then you're missing out on a big part of what makes the city great.
