You basically nailed it. I commute 8.5 miles both ways. Morning it takes me 15 minutes and afternoon takes 25 tops. It is the shite plus the road cycling and mountain biking are fantastic

Live here. It’s awesome.

Always can find an issue with a city wherever you go.

Cool places to eat and drink. Fun events. Great outdoors.

Miss the pro sports of Houston but not enough to move back.

Not saying it’s a bad place by any stretch, but not the best place to live in America like it might have legitimately been 10 years ago.

Negatives for Austin:

Weather is hotter than you know what. Homeless people everywhere. They are literally shitting in the streets in downtown. I lived in downtown for 6 years and saw it. It is disgusting. Looks like a third world country in some parts. The city is very expensive: rent is high, property tax is insane, sales tax is high. Traffic is a nightmare and getting worse. Austin is the San Francisco of Texas. For a big city they have zero professional teams. If you want to live in a overcrowded city I would like to at least to be able to watch a local NBA, NFL, or MLB game every once in awhile. Outdoor activities are overrated. Sure they have parks and hiking trails but they way over crowded, littered, and do not come close to the great outdoor scenery of other parts of the country. Liberals there will try to force their beliefs onto you if you have a different opinion. You will develop allergies quickly after living there.

Austin was a cool place to live 10 years ago but there are too many negatives about the city now. It really is not worth it in my opinion. The issues I stated above will be even worse in the next 5 years.

Yeah that’s not true at all. I know it feels this way and I used to have similar things to say about conservatives having grown up in Baton Rouge, but just because the dominant culture of a place doesn’t align with your values that doesn’t mean anyone is forcing anything on you.

I just looked it up and 100,000 people in Travis County voted for Donald Trump. Yeah that’s a minority but let’s not act like you’re politically oppressed if you live there. Just find your people.

Couldn't be further from the truth.

Outdoor activities in Austin really are overrated if it’s July or August

I’m looking forward to some Sunday morning kayaking in Austin in two weeks.

Going to have to sweat out the alcohol and BBQ that will be imbibed on Saturday.

Might want to check out the outdoor opportunities in Colorado, the Dakotas, Alaska, Montana, etc..

Sure you can go hiking right outside of Austin and see 30 people on the same beaten down trail and look out over a small hill. Muhha.

Don't fall in LBL right now. It's full of toxic algae that's been killing dogs within an hour

I read about that. It’s not just there, it’s a nationwide issue. Horrible.

May forego lady bird lake now that I think about it. I’ll just go for a sub-29min 5k instead.

I was referring to them being overcrowded and full of litter. Sure there are spots that get crowded but they're easy to avoid. And no clue what you are talking about regarding the trails being full of litter.

Damn shame.

We don’t have tickets to the game but we’ll be out tailgating beforehand and will be at the Rustic Tap (I think is the name) to watch the game.

Really looking forward to it.

Edit: Was thinking about getting a reservation at Jeffrey’s. Saw good reviews. Would you recommend it or somewhere else for a nice(r) dinner one night?

I'm not the best person to ask about that. I have 16 month old twin boys. I don't remember the last time I went to a nice restaurant in the evening.
